City of Darien, Georgia Code Enforcement

City of Darien, Georgia Code Enforcement To promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment for the City of Darien. Code Enforcement Officers are sworn officers of the City.

The Code Enforcement Division works in partnership with citizens to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. We work to enhance the quality of life in our community by eliminating unsightly or hazardous conditions. Code Enforcement covers a variety of codes and ordinances that the City has adopted to address these issues and concerns. Common Residential Concerns In

clude:
Lack of landscape maintenance, including mowing and w**d removal. Littering and illegal dumping. Scrap tires on public or private property. Open burning of any materials. Abandoned/junk vehicles, boats, trailers or equipment stored in public view. Improper storage of trash and yard debris. Storage of junk, including appliances, on public streets or private property. Signs placed on public property or within public rights-of-way, including medians. Common Business Concerns Include:
Illegal temporary signs, such as banners and window signs without a permit. Unlicensed businesses. What Happens After I Report a Violation? Complaints are addressed in a confidential, friendly, and understanding way. Upon receiving a complaint, a Code Enforcement Officer will evaluate the situation, possibly take pictures, and determine whether a violation exists. If a violation exists, the Officer will notify the property owner to explain the problem and suggest possible solutions. The property owner is then given reasonable time to take care of the violation. A follow up inspection is performed to verify that the violation has been corrected. Most property owners comply after the first notification. Those who do not comply may face enforcement action via the issuance of a citation and a hearing in Municipal Court. The Municipal Court Judge will hear testimony from the property owner and the Code Enforcement Officer and will rule on the case.

Darien City Hall
106 Washington Street

Built in the 1870s as a single story armory, it has served the community in several capacities over the years including a fire house (you can still see the double doors on the front of the building), a community building in 1942 during WWII for transient soldiers and home to the American Legion.

Today, City Hall houses the offices of the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement office as well as the City Court. On the 2nd floor is the β€œBluestein Room” where City Council, Planning & Zoning, Darien Downtown Development Authority and the Historic Preservation Committee conduct their meetings.
