Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge is part of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's National Wildlife Refuge System. The refuge was established in 1957 as a result of a navigation project by the Corps of Engineers. With 7, 000 acres of farmland and bottomland hardwoods, Holla Bend NWR provides a home to wintering waterfowl, as well as other small mammals, and neotropical songbirds. Holla Bend NWR of

fers a 10 mile Wildlife Drive that can be toured from your vehicle, with interpretive panels along the way. The refuge also offers access to an observation tower equipped with spotting scopes for the public to use. Along with these amenities, Holla Bend NWR has 2 nature trails for hiking, along with 3 boat ramps to access refuge lakes. Visitors can do a variety of things throughout the year such as hunting, fishing, hiking, photography, and bird watching.

Here they are! Even though only a handful of national wildlife refuges charge a small entrance fee, these are the days where those fees are waived.

The only thing uncomfortable about fall is the ragweed. I'm glad most of my uniform shirts are cotton - those sleeves have absorbed a lot of snot over the years! 😁
