Have you checked up on the 2022 Montana Boating Laws?

Refreshing your memory before taking the boat out for the year isn't just a good idea, it could potentially save a life.

Please be aware of these rules about Personal Floatation Devices, as well as all of the other rules and regulations found in the 2022 Montana Boating Laws document before your trip. You can find this info and more at https://fwp.mt.gov/activities/boating/rules-regulations

Thank you for recreating responsibly!

It sure has been a rainy spring!
All this rain means the reservoir is full, and the water is flooding some of our campsites! While site 11 is closed to our human campers, it is an idyllic vacation spot for some of our more wild park visitors. 😊

When planning your next trip remember to check on current conditions before you venture out!

DID YOU KNOW:
If bear proof or bear resistant garbage cans cannot latch closed, they are no longer bear resistant? If a bear gets into garbage, it can become "food conditioned" which is not only terrible for the animal, but is also a hazard for recreators.

These receptacles are provided for the use of our camp host and the convenience of our campers. If the receptacle is full, then it is time to "Pack it in, Pack it out".

If you use the garbage bins, we ask that you please break down boxes, and crush cans to create as much space as possible!

Thanks for keeping our parks safe and sanitary!

With the reservoir filled up its a great time to get familiar with boat ramp etiquette!

-Please be sure to always check area boating/fishing regulations BEFORE your trip!
-Do not block the boat ramp, or the area surrounding it. This helps trailers load or unload their boats faster, helping the lines move along!
-If you are visiting the reservoir for a quick peek, or to recreate, please park in day use areas only, and do not park at the top of the ramp, or in areas designated as camp sites (even if these spots are empty!)
-There is NO public mooring at the dock, which means you are not able to "park" your boat at the docks, or in the reservoir near the campground at any time!

Thanks for practicing proper boat ramp etiquette! Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Who doesn't love a good campfire?

We sure love them here at Painted Rocks, but what we don't love is unattended campfires, or ones left still warm. For public safety and wildfire prevention please be sure your fires are DEAD OUT which means there is no smoking, or smoldering and the fire ring, and ashes are cool to the touch.

Our wonderful camp hosts always have buckets of water and shovels for campers to use; and as always don't hesitate to reach out if you need a hand!

Heading out to camp this holiday weekend? Its always good to check on regulations for the sites you plan to visit before your trip!

Did you know-
You cannot leave a camper, tent, vehicle or other items as a placeholder for a site? Occupants of a campsite are REQUIRED to be present all nights that they are using a site. This includes sites that are paid in full.

Have a safe weekend!

⚠️Boaters Beware!!⚠️

A large tree washed down the Westfork and has been moving around quite a bit in the reservoir near the boat ramp!

Please be careful in this area, and always recreate responsibly.

Construction alert!⚠️🦺 This week, Monday May 2nd, through Friday May 6th, road work will take place in Painted Rocks State Park. Campers can look forward to new gravel, less potholes, longer vehicle parking pads, a few tent pads, and speed bumps! While the park remains open, work will be taking place in all of the campsites all week long. Thanks for your patience!

Help us by not turning the Bitterroot into the Litter Root! 😲
Now that spring is here, we're seeing more activity in the park. Just a reminder - glass, aluminum and food does not belong in a fire ring! A BIG THANK YOU to all the locals who cleaned the Painted Rocks State Park campground after there was vandalism this past weekend.
Please do your part by making sure you take home your trash, drive on designated roads, and pay your park fee! And tell your friends! 💃🕺

Be bear aware when venturing into the outdoors this Spring. As winter gives way to spring, recreationists are taking advantage of the warmer weather to get outside. However, this is also the time of year bears are emerging from their dens and conflicts with people tend to increase.

Bears can be found throughout Montana. In recent years, grizzly bear populations have expanded.

Best practices for safely exploring the outdoors:
* Stay alert especially where visibility or hearing is limited
* Travel in a group and keep members together (especially kids).
* Make noise whenever possible to avoid surprising a bear,
* Carry bear spray close at hand and know how to use it.
* Avoid traveling at night, dawn or dusk.
* Avoid carcass sites and scavenger concentrations
