The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is an awesome organization for youth and adults alike. It’s a great opportunity for teens (12 to 20) and their parents, other family members and friends to volunteer and serve together.
At our OPEN HOUSE on Sept 17, 2018, you will see all the great educational and civic opportunities the Civil Air Patrol provides. And as the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, see how you as a civilian can train to be part of real-world missions that serve your community in areas such as search and rescue and disaster relief.
COMMITMENT: We meet each Monday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and usually one Saturday per month.
CADET PROGRAM: Youth members, 12 and up (known as Cadets), progress through the Cadet Program that teaches leadership and life skills that lay the groundwork for a successful future. Cadets also train in a variety of areas such as STEM, aerospace (which includes rocketry, drone/RC, aviation history and flying), emergency services (which includes search and rescue ground teams and disaster relief), safety and fitness. The aviation component of the program introduces Cadets to all things aviation: ground handling of airplanes and gliders, aviation related communications and radio operations, weather, and career opportunities within aviation that span everything from aviation management, aerospace manufacturing and maintenance, aviation support careers such as air traffic control and meteorology, and even flying! After achieving certain milestones (but before they turn 18), Cadets can receive fully funded orientation flights (5 in a glider and 5 in an airplane). CAP also offers competitive scholarships in areas such as academics and aviation training. Cadets work toward milestones and achievements that promote them through a civilian rank structure like that in the Air Force. Although many Cadets choose to go into the military, there is no military commitment to participate in CAP.
SENIOR PROGRAM: Adult members who are 21+ (known as “Senior Members”) can participate in a wide variety of fields which could make the Civil Air Patrol the volunteer opportunity you’ve been looking for. If you have education, experience and skills, or want to develop them, you can share that knowledge and expertise as you mentor the next generation of citizens. If you want to learn how to be part of an emergency services response team (including support staff in the command center, communications, ground team search and rescue, air crew for missions involving the CAP plane, and lots more), you can work with other Senior Members to develop those skills and become real-world mission qualified. These options are not exclusive; you can do one, the other, or both. Mirroring our Cadet Program, Senior Members also gain educational and leadership achievements that help them progress through a similar Civilian Auxiliary rank structure.
