We are so excited to welcome home this amazing fountain of Neptune, by J. W. Fiske of New York, around the turn of the Century. Our restorer is coming out of retirement to work on him in the Spring. I can’t wait to update everyone as he gets a little makeover and is placed in his permanent home!

Sallie McAden Johnston Penn has COME HOME! The local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter has graciously agreed to allow us to purchase this amazing life-sized portrait of Sallie. After measuring every possible space on the first floor, only one wall fit this massive piece, so we are confident that she is now back in her original spot in the Ladies Parlor in the Penn House. HELP! We are looking for better photographs of some of the missing elements on our house so that we can re-create them with as much accuracy as possible. We know the pediment over the front porch was present as early as 20 years ago, and the same goes for the metal finial on the top of the second floor belvedere, which was removed after the tornado that threw the structure onto the driveway. Did your relatives come to visit and take photos? Do you remember an article from years ago? Did it show up in the background during a parade? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

The Carriage House renovation has been completed! We are so excited to see this 1903 structure glowing with a new shine! Overlooking beautiful Victorian gardens on three sides, it is so peaceful. It really only needed mainly cosmetic work, but we did do some upgrades in the kitchen and bathroom. We just love the details like the pine flooring and all the glass doorknobs! There are so many windows and so much light, that with the flowering trees coming up to the windows, it feels like you are in a tree house! We are so excited to welcome our new Tenant on the 26th♥️

A survey of the roof reveals that we need some work to the existing slate and the metal cresting. Fortunately, the metal roofing is in good shape. Fortunately, the window corbels and arches are made of metal, and we have someone who can re-create the missing ones! It’s the little wins…♥️

The circular tower windows were in rough shape. Of the four, one was mostly intact, but needing serious attention, another was in really rough shape, and the other two were missing altogether. We sought out to have them all restored and found a new gem of a glass restoration shop! See comments in the photos for the full story…

Yes, we DO have a dumbwaiter!!! While it needs a little servicing to make everything work more smoothly, it works as it should. This is in the Butler’s Pantry on the main floor, and it goes downstairs to the 2nd kitchen on one side, and the laundry room on the other side. We will eventually upgrade the downstairs kitchen into a respectable commercial/catering kitchen to accommodate big dinner parties! Through the doorway, you can see the Dining Room.

Welll, we may have lost our minds again…but you be the judge after seeing the photos. The Penn-Wyatt House sits next-door to the Sublett Miller House, and was looking for a new steward. Well, we’ve answered the call, and have taken on our next project! This amazing 1876 home was enlarged and made even more grand in 1887 and again in 1903 when the adjacent home was purchased, demolished, and the bricks used for the addition and the Carriage House in the rear. Originally built by James G. Penn, later expanded after he married his second wife, Sallie Johnson Penn of Madison, GA. The home and much of the furniture was sold at public auction in 1934 to Landon R. Wyatt, whose family occupied the home until 1997.
