Again with the heat index above 100f please check on your family, friends and neighbors! Stay hydrated and limit your exposure to the sun ☀️

It bears repeating… check on your family, neighbors and friends! The heat and humidity are climbing again. Make sure you hydrate and plan to stay out of the heat. Check local cooling centers if need be. Be safe and careful out there!

Everyone needs to be respected and supported… our dispatch center is staffed 24/7 365 by professional tele-communicators who are the best!

We answer the call when someone needs help. But who answers when the responder needs help?

September is National Su***de Awareness Month. 💛

First responders experience stress and trauma as part of the job. Sometimes we get really good at putting those experiences away and going back to work, but being strong doesn’t mean doing everything alone.

Check on your dispatcher. Check on your officer. Check on your firefighter. Check on your EMT. Check on your coworker. You never know what someone is carrying behind the uniform.

Shatter the stigma. Start the conversation. Mental health matters.

If you or someone you know is struggling and you don’t want to talk to a friend or coworker, help is available. If you are experiencing an immediate emergency, call 911.

Resources for First Responders:
• 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988(available to everyone not just first responders!)
• Safe Call Now – First Responder Peer Support: 206-459-3020
• COPLINE – Law Enforcement Peer Support: 1-800-267-5463
• First Responder Crisis Text Support: Text BADGE to 741741

You don’t have to carry it alone. 💛

National Drug Overdose Awareness Day is August 31st. Overdose deaths are preventable! Here are some important facts to remember;

No one has to die from an overdose.

Overdose deaths are preventable — especially when we're all prepared to help. This International Overdose Awareness Day, we're breaking down how you can act right away to help save a life.⬇️

⚠️Check for signs of an overdose.
Signs and symptoms include: blue or purple fingernails and lips; unresponsive or can't wake up; pale, cold, or clammy skin; small, pinpoint pupils; slow, irregular, or no breathing; and their body is weak or limp.

☎️Call 911 right away.
Tell the operator your exact location and let them know you are with a person who is not breathing. You don't need to be afraid to call 911 — Illinois' Good Samaritan Law protects a person having an overdose and the people who help from being charged or prosecuted for drug possession.

👃Use naloxone (or Narcan® nasal spray).
➡️Lay: Lay the person on their back and tilt their head up.
➡️Spray: Place the nozzle into one nostril and press the plunger firmly.
➡️Stay: Stay with the person until emergency help arrives. If the person hasn't started breathing within 2-3 minutes, give another dose.

😮‍💨Do rescue breathing.
If the person is not breathing or is breathing very slowly after the first dose of naloxone, start rescue breathing. Keep the person flat on their back, tilt their head back, pinch their nose, and breathe into their mouth every 5 seconds. Continue until the person wakes up or starts to breathe on their own.

📍Where can you get naloxone?
In Illinois, anyone can get trained to carry and administer naloxone. A standing order makes it easy to access, no prescription needed. Find naloxone at pharmacies, schools, public libraries, local health departments, and from your health care provider.

Stop an overdose death. Save a life.
