9/14/26 UPDATE: SUSPECT WANTED IN ONGOING SHOOTING INVESTIGATION OF 1-YEAR-OLD

The Danville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance locating K-Sean La’Darius Royster, 24, of Danville. Royster is wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in relation to the incident that resulted in a one-year-old child being shot at Purdum Woods Monday, Sept. 7.

The one-year-old who was injured in the shooting was released from the hospital on Sept. 8 and is recovering.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.

9/7/26 ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE: Danville Police Investigating Shooting Incident

On Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, at approximately 1:23 a.m., the Danville Police Department responded to a 911 call for multiple shots fired and a 1-year-old child being struck at the G building of the Purdum Woods apartment complex located at 1575 Richmond Boulevard.

Once on scene, officers located a 1-year-old female child suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Officers and first responders provided immediate medical attention before the child was airlifted to a trauma facility for treatment, where she is currently listed in stable condition.

The investigation found that at approximately 1:21 AM, multiple individuals shot toward a group standing in the breezeway area of the G building, in what appeared to be a targeted attack. Gunfire was returned from the G building breezeway area as well. The 1-year-old victim was being held by her mother at the time of the shooting and was struck while standing in the G building breezeway. The suspects fled on foot from the scene. Two apartments within the G building were struck by gunfire during this incident.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. The Danville Police Department asks anyone with information or surveillance cameras in the area, especially areas between Purdum Road, Bradley Rd, and side streets leading back toward North Main Street to contact the Danville Police Department by either calling 911, patrol at 434-799-6510 option 4, investigations at 434-799-6508 option 3, and option 1 again, contacting Crime Stoppers at 434-793-0000, approach any officer you see, through social media, via email [email protected], or use our crime tips app CARE at www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=818 #.

Danville Utilities is inviting the community to learn more about how utility rates are determined.

A Rate Study Information and Q&A Session will be held Monday, September 14, at 6 p.m.** at the Pepsi Building, 661 Craghead Street.

Danville Utilities conducts a rate study every two years, and the current study is being performed by a rate consultant. During the session, the consultant will provide an overview of the rate-setting process, explain how utility rates are developed and discuss the factors that influence them.

Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from the consultant about the process.
