Good afternoon! The parade info! It will be hot, stay hydrated and dress for the weather! Please wear blue or a candidate shirt, bring extra candy if you have any, as I am always afraid we will run out no matter how much we buy. We will have Mr. Butler driving his truck and the trailer and at least one SUV for people to ride. Hugh Sands for Sheriff will be in all 3 parades and Mary Catherine Roberson for IL State Representative - District 104 will be in Danville and Westville (and Champaign, but we're letting the Champaign County Democrats handle that one!). Douglas Fagan who is running for IL State Representative --District 101 will be joining us in Hoopeston!

Saturday, September 5th, National Sweetcorn Festival Grand Parade. Line up between 9AM and 945AM. Parade starts at 10:30AM. Meet at S. 6th Street between Main St and Penn St. Directions will be in comments. Parade ends at McFerren Park

Monday, September 7th. Danville Labor Day Parade. Line up starts at 8AM. Parade starts at 9AM. Meet at Hope United Church 428 N. Walnut St., Danville. Parade ends at Main St and Vermilion St.

Monday, September 7th, Westville Labor Day Parade. Line up starts at 10:30AM, Parade starts at 11:30 AM (yes there is an error in the graphic). Danville participants will be coming straight over, if some people could possibly carpool, that would be great. For those starting in Westville, line up is on RT 1 between Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Just about 2 weeks ago, the VC Dems went to Springfield! Democratic Party Candidate for the Vermilion County Board of Review District 1 Colin Osterbur, Democratic Party Candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives District 104 Mary Catherine Roberson VC Dem Chair Amy Buttram VC Dem Vice Chair Ed Butler and Katie Osterbur all attended the IDCCA annual brunch. A fantastic way to wish Senator Durbin a Happy Retirement in January, welcome in Illinois Democratic Party Candidate for US Senator our current Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton and a rally cry to flip seats all over the Nation to blue! All the speakers were wonderful but we were partial to Kwame Raoul and his Don't Toy With Illinois speech peppered with Hamilton references. Afterwards we attended the Governor's Lunch on the Lawn at the Illinois State Fair.

We also met up with our friends Douglas Fagan, Democratic Party Candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives District 101 and Democratic Party Candidate for the US House of Representatives District 15 Jennifer Todd.

Today, August 26th, was Women's Equality Day, a day to celebrate American women gaining the right to vote in 1920. Its crazy to think that half of our population has only been able to vote in the elections that influence their every day lives for just over 100 years.

There is A LOT of talk about our voting rights in the US with the upcoming General Election. The most common question I receive is, if the name on my birth certificate does not match my legal name, will I still be able to vote? And I understand the uncertainty. The United States House of Representatives has passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act or SAVE America Act) multiple times. However, the United States Senate has not passed the bill, but is currently being debated. It is frustrating to me, our elected representatives have spent so much time on this bill, when the Federal Government has stated less than 0.05% of voter verification cases are flagged as non US citizens. Further, of that number most were proven to be valid and legitimate voters.

While I could talk rumors, and my gut feeling on what the rules will be for the upcoming election, we will stay with facts (Illinois dependent. Check your state's Board of Elections for more information). According to the Illinois Board of Elections, if you are a registered voter and your name and address match the registration, that is the only verification you need. If it does not match, you can still vote utilizing a provisional ballot in person.

I do urge you all to check your voter registration to ensure you are registered and the information is accurate. Go here to check: https://ova.elections.il.gov/registrationlookup.aspx

For more information on the entire process and FAQ go to: https://www.elections.il.gov/InformationForVoters.aspx?MID=I0cuvBFuZRw%3d

If you have additional questions, feel free to email us at [email protected] I may not know the answer, but I will find it out for you.

Thank you,
Amy Buttram
