💙 What a night at Garfield Park! 💙

Last night, we officially celebrated the grand opening of the newly improved Garfield Park, and we couldn’t have asked for a better turnout!

It was truly special to see so many people come together for the ribbon cutting, including current and former aldermen, Mayor Williams, the Boys & Girls Club, members of our community, Public Works, City Hall, and our Danville Seahawks. Having everyone there to celebrate together made the night even more meaningful.

A special thank you to Mayor Williams for believing in the vision for Garfield Park and helping see it through. His passion for this park and the surrounding community has been clear from the beginning, and his commitment to making Garfield Park a true hub for recreation and community is helping turn that vision into reality.

Garfield Park has seen some BIG changes:

🏈 New football field
📣 New scoreboard
🛝 New playground
🏀 Recoated basketball courts
🎪 New pavilion
🟦 New bags/cornhole set

And, of course, the recently renovated Danville Aquatic Center brings it all together, making Garfield Park truly a place for community.

A huge thank you to GameTime Sports for bringing so many of these improvements to life, including the new playground equipment, pavilion, scoreboard, and bags set. Your investment in Garfield Park is an investment in our community. ❤️

And what better way to celebrate than with ice cream?! 🍦 Paw Paw Pete’s handed out 217 FREE ice cream cones, proudly sponsored by GameTime Sports!

Last night was more than a ribbon cutting. It was a celebration of community, progress, and a park that is becoming a place where people come together. We can’t wait to see all the memories made here for years to come! 💙

🎬 DANVILLE AFTER DARK IS HERE! 🎬

We’re excited to launch Danville After Dark: A Community Movie Series with our very first movie night during the Vermilion River Fall Festival! 🌙🍿

📅 Saturday, September 19
📍 Ellsworth Park: South End of the Park
🎬 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
⏰ Movie begins at 7:30 PM
🎟️ FREE for the entire community!

After enjoying the Fall Festival, stick around and settle in for a movie under the stars! The movie will be shown on the south end of Ellsworth Park, right where the festival is taking place.

🪑 Bring your chairs and blankets and get comfortable!
🌭 Some food trucks will be available for anyone wanting to purchase food throughout the evening.

And this is just the beginning! 🍿✨ Danville After Dark will continue at Garfield Park in October and Lincoln Park in November. We’ll be sharing the movie times for those two dates later, so stay tuned! 👀

Please note that Monday, September 7, is Labor Day, and there will be no trash collection that day.

Trash collection will be delayed by one day for the week. Please have your trash out by 6:30 AM on your collection day.

Ellsworth Park is now open to the public! Thank you for your patience as our Public Works team got everything cleaned up!

‼️Due to high water levels, Ellsworth Park will be closed until further notice. ‼️

The Middlefork Flea Market scheduled in Ellsworth Park on August 15th has been moved to Lincoln Park.

‼️Grand Opening Postponed

Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast, we have made the decision to postpone the Grand Opening of Garfield Park that was scheduled for today.

While we were looking forward to celebrating this exciting addition to our community with everyone, the safety and comfort of our residents and guests will always come first. We want to make sure we can properly celebrate this special occasion with our community when the weather cooperates!

We will announce the new date and time as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support of our parks and recreation department. We can’t wait to celebrate Garfield Park with all of you! 🎉🌳
