Separate post, Facebook settings would not allow us to combine photographs and videos together, but this short video shows how after the corn is ground between two rotating stones inside the box, the meal is sorted on a inclined vibrating screen so that finer cornmeal falls into the first bucket and courser meal aggregates to the end that Mr. LouAllen can bag into grits.
We are so excited to announce our 3rd Farm to School take-home for all Lawrence County Kindergarteners in celebration of Novemberās Native American Heritage Month. Students will receive stone-ground cornmeal made right here in Lawrence County by Larry LouAllen at LouAllen Farms in Moulton, Alabama!
During the first week of November, students will have a special bag in their backpacks with 2 cups of cornmeal, meal will be double bagged and already mixed with salt, baking powder, and a little flour, a recipe booklet (classic cornbread, cornbread salad, & many more) and Native American history and nutritional information.
We are so thankful for our partnerships with Lawrence County Al Child Nutrition Program, Lawrence County-Alabama Extension, Lawrence County, Alabama Schools, U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm to School Program, and Oakville Indian Mounds Park & Museum!
