Melly with the Spotted Belly
Melly the kitten woke up one morning and yelled for Mommy Cat, “Mommy Cat! Mommy Cat! Something is wrong with my belly; it’s all spotted.” Mommy Cat smiled softly, “Melly, your belly has always been spotted, and it’s one of the many things that makes you so unique.” But, Mommy, none of my friends have spotted bellies,” Melly said in a confused manner. “Oh, Melly, I’m sure if you look around, you will notice everyone you know and everything you see is unique and beautiful. Now, why don’t you head to the park, and I’ll meet you there soon?”
Melly started walking to the park when Bailey Bird walked up to her. “Melly, I have never seen such pretty spots in my life than the ones that are on your belly; they remind me of the back of a beautiful ladybug.” “Thank you so much,” said Melly. “I just love your bright blue feathers; they remind me of the sky,” exclaimed Melly.
The two friends smiled at each other and continued on their separate paths.
Shortly after, Melly saw Serena Squirrel running up to her. “Oh, Serena, I’m so glad to see you,” said Melly. That was when Melly noticed Serena’s beautiful tail that had multiple colors. “Serena, I’ve never noticed your beautiful tail before; it reminds me of a rainbow,” exclaimed Melly. “Thank you so much; that just made my day,” Serena said gleefully. “I’ve got to go; Mommy Cat will be meeting me at the park soon,” so Melly started to walk to the park; she didn’t want Mommy Cat to be worried.
Melly made it to the park where Mommy Cat was waiting for her on a bench. Mommy Cat gave Melly a hug and let her go and play. That’s when she saw her best friend Daisy the dog. Daisy started to bark excitedly as Melly ran up to her. That was when Melly noticed that Daisy had the most gorgeous eyes; one was brown like autumn leaves, and the other was green like beautiful moss on a log. “Daisy!” Melly exclaimed. “I’ve never noticed before, but you have the most beautiful eyes.” “Thank you,” replied Daisy.
Melly and Daisy spent the rest of the day at the park figuring out how every little thing was different from each other, from each rock to the bark on trees, and that every little difference is what makes everyone and everything beautiful.
