Dandridge Memorial Library

Thanks to Steve Marion for helping us keep the community informed our on progress toward a bigger and better DML! We're starting our year-end fundraising push now to keep the construction momentum going, so be on the lookout for new options for how you can help get us into our new library.

Construction is underway on a new $4.2 million Dandridge Memorial Library after some initial delays — and a newly-announced $500,000 grant will assist with equipment and furniture.

“It’s going to be a great addition to the community,” Bob Jarnagin, president of the Library Foundation Board, told Dandridge Council last week. “We’re excited to be moving forward after some site issues.”

The foundation and building pad are expected to be complete by the end of next month, with the roof going on in January and the building finished by the end of June 2027.

Have you hiked the new greenway lately? A First Horizon debit card was found on the trail this morning. We will hold it for a week for anyone who can show ID to pick up, then we will return it to the bank.

Things have been quiet on the construction front, but we're thrilled to announce that crews are back at work this week! We're librarians, not architects or engineers, so this has been a big learning curve for us. It turns out that when you encounter problems on a construction job (for example, big rocks where you don't need them to be), solving those problems tends to just create more problems that also need to be solved. There will no doubt be more kinks to iron out as the process moves forward, but for now, we're just happy to see work being done once again. Footers are being poured and the rest of the foundation is soon to follow. We hope to be under a roof by January and fully moved in by the end of Summer 2027! Donations (financial, books and other in kind donations of stocks, etc) are still welcome to make sure we can stay on schedule.

A little tribute to "the book lady," Dolly Parton. Color a butterfly to decorate the library in honor of her legacy of giving and her devotion to literacy. All books on the bottom row of our display case are books that have been given to children through Tennessee and the world for free through Dolly's Imagination Library. If you have a child under the age of 5 and you aren't currently a member of this great program, we also have forms you can fill out to sign up to receive a book for free in the mail every month.
