The Adult Leadership Class is off and running! We are so very lucky in our county to have so many organizations that help. We would like to thank Heard & Held for speaking to us and Isaiah117 House for the tour and discussion. We lunched with the lovely Seniors at Strawberry Plains Senior Center. Hoof & Harness helps so many with their programs and we enjoyed visiting and learning about them, along with WestCare which provides services to veterans and recovery programs. To end our day we were treated to tour one of the Habitat for Humanity houses in progress. Thank you to all!!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for our September Commerce, Conversation and Breakfast this morning! It was so lovely to see you all!! We are so appreciative to Tennova Healthcare - Jefferson Memorial Hospital as well for hosting this month. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast as we learned and were updated on all that Tennova does for and in the community, and were also able to hear from their doctors and meet firsthand who takes such good care of all of us.

Thank you again and we'll see you for the next one Oct 14th! As a side note, our November breakfast is being moved to Nov 4th so that we do not conflict with Veteran's Day.

The Adult Leadership Class of 2026-2027 began with orientation on August 19th. The class got to know each other, learned a few things, had a few fun challenges, and joined a drum circle to show how listening and working together can make great music. We all look forward to this year!

The loss of Dolly Parton has been felt around the world, but especially here, in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee where she grew up. Even as a young girl, she dreamed big- and even as she grew to be a star known worldwide, she continued to dream for her people.

In 1995, Dolly started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write. She wanted to ensure kids could have books of their very own, regardless of their family's circumstances. Dolly hoped those books would encourage children to love reading, dream more and believe that their own possibilities were bigger than they might imagine.

Now, every month in homes across the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Australia, children open their mailboxes to find a book with their name on it because people in their own communities decided Dolly's dream was worth sharing.

Over 2,300 children right here in Jefferson County find a book in their mailbox too — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

While our hearts are incredibly sad today, we’re more inspired than ever to continue this important mission. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children.

Thank you, Dolly 🦋 We will always love you.

If you would like to honor Dolly's legacy, please visit https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/ to donate to the Imagination Library program. You may designate your donation to a particular Imagination Library Local Program Partner if you choose; ours is TN- Jefferson County.

Join us on Sunday, August 30th, as we assemble care packages, write letters to PAIL survivors, and decorate our office! We’ll be gathering in the Fellowship Hall at FBC JeffCity at 3:30PM.

We’ll have all of the supplies we need, but if you’d like to add a personal touch to the boxes, feel free to bring a pair cozy socks (individually packaged), your fave body scrub, a candle, or some chocolate bars.

This is event is open to the public, and we hope to see members of the community in attendance! Help us show grieving families that they are seen and cared for 🫶

We hope to host volunteer days like this on a quarterly basis, so if you can’t make this event, follow us to stay updated on future dates!
