Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak won the 1964 Caldecott. Despite winning the prestigious medal, the book was originally considered terrifying. When Sendak accepted his award, he addressed the adult critics who were scandalized by the monsters, saying: “Where the Wild Things Are was not meant to please everybody—only children. The book has truly passed the test of time in charming children.The book’s working title was actually Where the Wild Horses Are, but Sendak later realized he couldn’t draw horses well.

She wrote over 300 books for children and teens. Rest in Peace 🩷❤️🩷
