CeaseFirePA is conducting a survey to ascertain the costs of when a family member, friend, classmate, neighbor, coworker, or someone else close to you dies by a firearm to su***de. Each year, more than 1,000 Pennsylvanians die by firearm su***de. While the medical costs associated with these deaths are documented by national data systems, the broader financial and community impacts are rarely captured. This project will develop the first comprehensive estimate of the full costs of firearm su***de in Pennsylvania. In doing so, it will strengthen the Commonwealth’s prevention strategy by demonstrating that firearm su***de is not only a devastating public health crisis, but also a significant economic burden borne by communities and taxpayers. This survey is designed to help us better understand these broader costs and support more effective prevention efforts across the Commonwealth.

If you would like to participate by taking the survey, please go here:

The aftermath of su***de is something many people do not fully talk about.

It leaves behind grief, shock, guilt, unanswered questions, emotional exhaustion, and a pain that can deeply change a person. Even strong and highly functional people can find themselves emotionally overwhelmed, wondering if life will ever feel the same again.

Losing someone to su***de can bring silent struggles that are difficult to explain to others. Some people replay memories repeatedly. Some blame themselves. Some struggle with anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, emotional numbness, or the feeling of being disconnected from the world around them.

Grief after su***de loss is not something people simply “move on” from. Healing takes time, support, compassion, and safe spaces where people can speak honestly without fear of judgment.

Our monthly Survivors of Su***de Loss Support Group was created to remind people that they do not have to carry this grief alone. 💙

If you are grieving the loss of someone to su***de, know that your pain is valid, your emotions matter, and there are people willing to listen and walk this journey with you. 🫂
