On Saturday August 29th, the Dallas Police Department Office of Media Relations and Community Affairs and other community partners hosted a special event honoring the life and legacy of fallen Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks.
This event included a youth basketball clinic, giving local children an opportunity to learn basketball skills, participate in drills, and interact with members of the police department in a positive and welcoming environment. The clinic reflected Officer Burks’ own history of working with youth. Before joining the Dallas Police Department, Burks spent many years as a mathematics teacher and mentor, touching the lives of countless students.
Following the youth basketball clinic, Dallas area police officers and members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity played the second annual Unity Classic. Officer Burks was himself a proud member of Omega Psi Phi. His fraternity brothers and the Dallas Police community share a connection through their commitment to service, brotherhood, leadership, and community.
Officer Burks is not only remembered for his service as a police officer, but also for the impact he made as an educator, mentor, fraternity brother, and member of the Dallas community.
