A new study published in Nature Aging by Komen Scientific Advisory Board member Adrian Lee and former Komen Scholar Steffi Oesterreich explores why hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer become more common with age, even after menopause.

Researchers found that age-related changes in both hormone activity and inflammation may help create an environment where breast cancer can grow. The study also identified potential new treatment targets that could lead to more personalized approaches for older women.

The research was made possible in part by the people who donated tissue and blood to the Komen Tissue Bank.

A big Congressional victory for the breast cancer community!

The Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young (EARLY) Act Reauthorization of 2025 and the Screening for Communities to Receive Early and Equitable Needed Services (SCREENS) for Cancer Act passed together on the House floor!

Both bills reauthorize important programs that promote awareness and improve access to timely screening and care, reducing barriers for millions across the country. Thank you to all the advocates and bipartisan champions who have used their voices in support of these critical programs. The bill now awaits a vote in the Senate. Susan G. Komen Advocacy
