The Political Science Symposium (PSS) strives to increase political activism and awareness in a non-partisan format. Our aim is to observe current trends and issues in politics by analyzing news events, policy changes, and legal issues; and to debate their pros and cons. Our biweekly meetings will alternate between hearing speakers from the Political Science, Economy, Philosophy, Public Policy, an

d Communications departments, and engaging in peer debates/ discussions within the club. The topics for the debates, with suggested readings for background information and preparation, will be emailed beforehand. One of out major Fall events is the Political Science Career Panel. SMU alumni share their experiences as a political science student and share their post-graduation careers. Their advice and Q&A's can help illumiate ways of success as an undergrad and a vast array of options after you earn your degree. Our other main Fall event is the Law School Panel. Current and former law school students explain their experience in law school and how to prepare for it. This insight extremely beneficial who are still unsure if they really want to attend law school. It is equally valuable for those who are already set on attending law school, as it gives you an opportunity to ask questions and get advice on what you can do now to succeed later. We hold monthly mixers with political science professors to help foster the valuable professor-student bond that is often underutilized. It also give you a chance to get to know other political science students outside of the classroom. Tower Center and encourages its members to be active with the Center.

Here is a cool opportunity from an SMU Law student:

My name is Patrick Kennedy and I am a third year law student here at the SMU law school. I am writing to you today to see if any of your members in the Political Science Symposium would be interested in participating as mock trial jurors this coming Saturday, April 5th.

There are two types of cases being held this Saturday, a civil case involving a su***de, and a criminal case involving a murder. The cases are being tried by law students who are completing a course in trial work. As jurors, anyone who volunteers actually gets to decide the case and determine which team of students wins. You will act just like a jury, and the case is treated like an actual case.

The cases will be held this coming Saturday, April 5th, at the George Allen, Sr. Civil Courthouse down on 600 Commerce Street, from 8:30 - about 1:00. You can participate because you might think it is fun, or, if one of your professors will give you extra credit for participating, my professors have agreed to write a letter verifying your participation. Also, this would be good to put in a law school application.

If you or any of your members are interested, please let me know. We'd be very happy to have ya'll!

His email is [email protected] if any of you are interested
