Ennis Police Department Receives the High Honor of being a Texas Accredited Law Enforcement Agency:

Ennis Police Department Receives “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” from the Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program

On September 10, 2026, the Ennis Police Department received the award of Accredited Law Enforcement Agency from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. Begun in 2006, the Accreditation Program evaluates a law enforcement agency’s compliance with 175 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These standards were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service and the protection of individual’s rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations, just to name a few.

This voluntary process required the Ennis Police Department to conduct a critical self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities and operations. Beginning in September of 2024, the department began the lengthy process to become an “Accredited” Law Enforcement Agency” by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. Upon completion of the internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. This final on-site review took place on August 20, 2026. The on-site review is conducted by trained Police Experts from other areas of our state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Accreditation Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Accredited” status.

On September 10, 2026, the department was notified that it had been awarded the coveted “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award. The Ennis Police Department has always considered itself to be one of the best in the state. This process provided for an independent review of the department’s operations and should assure the citizens of Ennis that its Police Department is conforming to the current state of the art in law enforcement.

We Remember.

Today, we pause to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and all the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away. They answered the call with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serve.

Many never came home.

Their sacrifice reminds us that true heroism is not measured by words, but by the willingness to put others before yourself, even in the face of unimaginable danger.

We honor their lives.
We remember their families.
We carry their stories forward.
And we will Never Forget.

May we always remember the courage displayed that day and the selfless spirit of those who gave everything to save others.

Rest in honor.

Rest in peace.

Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

UPDATE: RUPTURED GAS LINE

The only remaining road closure is in the 300 block of South McKinney Street.

Atmos Energy remains on scene completing the final repairs.
We appreciate everyone’s patience, cooperation, and understanding as this work is completed.

Ruptured gas line in Ennis!

Please be advised that there’s a ruptured gas line in the 300 block of South McKinney, Ennis, Texas

Various blocks around this leak have been shut down for through traffic.

City of Ennis and Atmos Energy personnel are on location.

We ask everyone to please avoid this area and use alternate routes.

We will advise when the street is back open.

We appreciate your patience and like always if you see something say something.

Roadway Blockage on Oak Grove Rd:

If your travels today include the 3500 block of Oak Grove here in Ennis
Please plan to use an alternate route, as the street will be temporarily closed due to downed power lines.

We will advise when the roadway is open to normal traffic

📣The City of Ennis will conduct a test of the Outdoor Warning Sirens today, August 5 at noon.

These tests are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month at noon. The sirens will remain silent during normal testing times if adverse weather conditions are present.

What are Outdoor Warning Sirens (OWS)? Outdoor Warning Sirens are part of our emergency alert system designed to warn residents about imminent dangers such as severe weather, tornadoes, and other emergencies.

⚠️Stay connected and sign up for emergency notifications from the City of Ennis at www.ennistx.gov/EmergencyNotifications.

You can also prepare for emergencies by checking your home systems, including:
-NOAA weather radios
-Shelter locations
-Disaster supplies

This is just a test of our systems and is not a reason to call 911.
