This week the Board of Commissioners recognized Carrie Jackson, Carol Carlson and Matt Olson from the Discovery/Evidence Division for Special Thanks and Recognition.

DA Aaron Felton has nominated them for these reasons:

I am nominating the entire Discovery/Evidence Division of the District Attorney’s Office for this quarter’s Star Award. Because they function so effectively as a team, it is impossible to single one member of the division out from the others as being individually more worthy than the others of this recognition. While this division arguably makes a significant difference in nearly all of the seven awards guideline categories, for the reasons below, they particularly distinguish themselves in the areas of:
• Excellent Customer Service
• Team Success
• Outstanding Achievement
In every prosecution, our office is required by statute to gather all the evidence collected by law enforcement and turn it over to the defense attorney representing an individual charged with a crime. Depending on the case, that information can be voluminous, and involve multiple agencies. The Discovery /Evidence Division is the clearing house through which all that information is collected, sorted and distributed.
In the last ten years, with the advent of digital case management systems and police body cameras, that process has undergone a revolutionary transformation. I am very proud to say that our Discovery/Evidence team of Carrie Jackson, Carol Carlson and Supervisor Matt Olson have not only kept pace with the technological changes, but established a leadership role by building one of, if not the finest operations in Oregon. As a result of their work, the Polk County DA’s Office is consistently able to provide discovery in the majority of our cases within five days or less of filing. That is extraordinarily fast for an office of any size. They are also able to fulfill specific discovery requests within 24-48 hours, which results in a very high degree of confidence in this office from the bench, the public and other attorneys.
In sum, this department in the DA’s Office, is a major contributor to our mission of seeking justice for the people of Polk County and are extremely deserving of this special recognition from the Board.

On behalf of the Board, we are excited to recognize the Discovery/Evidence Team for the STAR Recognition Award. Thank you for all that you do!

This week the Board of Commissioners and staff recognized Josh Herzberg for Special Thanks and Recognition.

Todd Whitaker has nominated Josh for these reasons:
Josh Herzberg has been with the County for 20 years next year. He started as a Heavy Equipment Operator, then moved to the Survey department in 2017. He worked studiously, and completed the required education to become a licensed surveyor, and was appointed as Survey Crew Chief in 2023. Josh was recently recognized by OACES (Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors) for their Legislative Advocacy Award for his work and testimony on HB 3175 - Public Land Corner Fee Modernization, which was passed this year and takes effect January 1. The bill removes the statutory $10 cap that was set in place 40-years-ago, and empowers county commissioners to set fees based on local needs for establishing, reestablishing, and maintaining public land survey corners, ensuring accurate land management and property lines for Oregon residents.

On behalf of the Board, we are excited to recognize Josh for the STAR Recognition Award. Thank you for all that you do!

We are pleased to share that our Payroll team was recently recognized by Oregon PERS for their outstanding performance.

The team received an award for maintaining high standards in prompt reporting, corrections, and timely payments.

Within the state, there is often a spirited competition among the larger counties to earn these accolades, so this is a significant win for Polk County.

It’s great to see their hard work and technical diligence recognized at the state level.

Amazing job to our Payroll Team!
