Introducing: Understanding Fear, by Genesis the Podcast. Listen along to our new four-part series as we get more comfortable with a typically uncomfortable topic - fear. Fear is an inherent part of our survival and can be a useful tool in navigating our surroundings, but for survivors of domestic violence that fear may be linked to the trauma they've endured in such a way where their brains and bodies do not want to engage with it. That reaction is completely valid and part of your body's response to keep you emotionally or physically safe.
On Part 1 of our Understanding Fear series, host Maria MacMullin and Genesis Chief Residential Officer Jordyn Lawson take a deeper dive into the chemical and biological responses to fear - how it may manifest in our bodies, how trauma can impact our receptors to fear and techniques anyone can do to help regulate their nervous system as they navigate a fearful experience or memory.
