A new era of public safety education and training is taking shape at UNT Dallas.
Earlier today, UNT Dallas President Warren von Eschenbach and UNT System Chancellor Michael Williams joined city, state, university and community leaders to break ground on the new Law Enforcement Training Center (LETC).
Set on 20 acres of the UNT Dallas campus, the $200+ million, multi-building development will bring law enforcement training and higher education together in a unique partnership. The center will feature classrooms, computer labs, indoor and outdoor training areas, and event and community spaces—all designed to create new opportunities for learning, research and collaboration.
For UNT Dallas criminal justice students, the LETC will offer something especially powerful: the opportunity to learn just steps away from where future and current law enforcement officers are training. Dallas police cadets and officers will also have pathways to earn college credit toward a bachelor’s degree through their academy and TCOLE-licensed training.
“This facility brings those tracks together. It's a unique and innovative model that we believe the rest of the country will be watching,” President von Eschenbach said.
Expected to open in 2028, the LETC represents a major investment in education, workforce development and public safety—and an innovative partnership between and the City of Dallas.
