We invite you to support a vital community effort.

Blood donations tend to decline during the summer months as families prioritize vacations and outdoor activities. This seasonal trend coincides with the global soccer tournament, which is expected to draw large crowds and increase demands on local healthcare resources. Unfortunately, the current rate of blood donations is not meeting the needs of local patients.

In response, the Lake Highlands YMCA is hosting a blood drive on July 14th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

We encourage you to reserve a donation time by July 13th through the Carter BloodCare Donor Portal, although walk-ins are also accepted.

Participants will receive a stainless steel water canteen as a token of appreciation.

Please see the announcement below regarding today's incident involving a City of Dallas sanitation vehicle on Thunderbird Lane.

I am grateful that there were no injuries in this incident and appreciate the swift response from Dallas Fire-Rescue, Dallas Sanitation Services, and all personnel who responded to the scene.

Las muestras de mosquitos recogidas en Dallas han confirmado la presencia del virus del Nilo Occidental. Sujeto a condiciones climáticas favorables, la pulverización de control de mosquitos está programada para las áreas designadas entre las 9 p. m. y las 5 a. m. todas las noches desde el lunes 22 de junio hasta el martes 23 de junio. Please find attached the press releases and maps detailing today's positive West Nile Virus results. Mosquito samples collected in Dallas have confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus. Subject to favorable weather conditions, mosquito control spraying is scheduled to take place in the designated areas between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly from Monday, June 22nd to Tuesday, June 23rd. The affected areas span Council Districts 1, 4, 6, 10, 11, and 13.

Dallas is about to take center stage!

Starting June 11, our city will welcome visitors from around the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and one of the biggest celebrations will be right here at Fair Park with the FIFA Fan Festival.

In addition to the Fan Festival, Fair Park will also host the “The World Is Ours” Installation Ceremony, a special public art experience by artists Risk Rock and Mesplé, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. This installation highlights the spirit of sports, community, and global connection as Dallas welcomes the world.

The FIFA Fan Festival will feature live World Cup matches on giant screens, entertainment, family-friendly activities, and food from around the world. It is a great way to experience the excitement of the World Cup even if you do not have a match ticket.

Admission is free with registration, so be sure to reserve your spot early and come be part of this historic moment in Dallas.

District 10 – Walne Park Tennis Courts Temporary Closure Notice 🎾➡️🏓

The tennis courts at Walne Park (formerly Lake Highlands North Park), located at 9344 Church Road, are temporarily closed as Dallas Park & Recreation begins improvements to convert the existing tennis courts into dedicated pickleball courts.

📅 Closure Period: Now through June 13, 2026

These improvements will provide additional recreational opportunities and help meet the growing demand for pickleball in our community.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work is underway. We look forward to welcoming residents back to enjoy the upgraded courts once construction is complete.

Dear community, the recent explosion and fire at an Oak Cliff apartment complex, caused by a natural gas pipeline being accidentally struck during construction, has left us deeply saddened. At least three people, including a child, lost their lives, and five others were injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

Mission Oak Cliff is organizing support efforts and accepting donations to help those impacted. You can drop off donations at 111 S. Beckley Avenue, with specific hours for today and next week, and visit missionoakcliff.org/donate for more details.

Council-member Chad West and I stand with the Oak Cliff community, and we will continue to provide updates on the relief efforts.
