One of the best things (the University Park Public Library) in our neighborhood is free, but it is not free to run. The Friends help fund everything from new books and inviting spaces to robust programming for adults and kids.

David McCloskey and Tracy Walder will share their spycraft expertise and describe how their previous positions in the CIA and FBI have informed their latest ventures including McCloskey’s "London Station" spy novel and The Rest Is Classified podcast and Walder’s "The Unexpected Spy" memoir and Netflix American Manhunt series.

Help us win a $1,000 grant for the University Park Public Library!

Here's how it works: snap a photo or video with a North Texas Giving Day yard sign, post it on Instagram or Facebook, tag North Texas Giving Day, and add . Be sure to name The Friends of the University Park Public Library in your post so your entry counts for us!

Every post is a shot at one of four $1,000 grants from Communities Foundation of Texas and there's no limit to how many times you can enter. So grab a sign or take a picture of one around the neighborhood and help us win!

North Texas Giving Day early giving starts NOW, and for a limited time every dollar you give to The Friends is TRIPLED!

Thanks to a generous match from Clavis Capital Partners, Bill & Zora Skelton, Chuck & Beth Thoele, and two anonymous donors, the first $10,000 given becomes $30,000 for the University Park Public Library.

That's 3x the programming, 3x the books, 3x the spaces that make our library a gathering place. Give early so your gift goes furthest.

He shared insight into Larry McMurtry's life that inspired his more than 50 works, including Lonesome Dove. It was the perfect way to end our inaugural Community Read! On Saturday, The Friends came together to celebrate a shared love of the University Park Public Library with a private book sale.

Congratulations to Suzanne Roberts, who won a gift card generously donated by Banditos Tex-Mex Cantina- Dallas Texas! (Thank you, Banditos, for supporting The Friends!)

To everyone who came out: thank you for being a Friend! We raised over $400 to continue supporting library programs, collections, and spaces that make the UPPL such a treasure for our community!

The Community Read finale is here! 🤠📖

Join us this Tuesday, August 25, for the final event of our 2026 Community Read of Lonesome Dove. We’re honored to host George Getschow, author and Director of the Larry McMurtry Literary Center.

Light refreshments begin at 6:30 PM, followed by the presentation at 7:00 PM.

Love our book sales? It's kinda chic to help lead one!

We are looking for Book Sale Chairs—and it's one of the most rewarding (and genuinely fun) ways to give back!

The best part? Chairs usually work in pairs, so grab a friend and take it on together. You'll set up, display, and sell the gently used books our generous community donates. And every dollar raised goes straight to the University Park Public Library we all treasure.

Never led an event before? No problem. We have a tried-and-true plan to follow, plus experienced marketing, finance, and volunteer teams supporting you the whole way. Bring your enthusiasm and your creative ideas!

Sales you could chair this year:
🍂 Fall Book Sale — Oct 15–17
🎁 Giftable Holiday Sale — Dec 4–5
❄️ Winter Sale — late Jan / early Feb
🌷 Spring Sale — late April / early May
☀️ Summer Sale at the Library

Each sale runs just 1–3 days, and for the later ones, you can pick the dates that work for you.

As our community read concludes, hear from George Getschow, Executive Director of the Larry McMurtry Literary Center. He will discuss why he believes Lonesome Dove inspires such devotion after 40 years, and shed some fresh light on the McMurtry Literary Center.
