Another apparatus struck and firefighter injured while blocking traffic for an accident. Please pay attention when approaching an accident scene. We want to go home to our families safely!

Morning reading/viewing. Over to Pitt County and new details about Sunday's secondary apparatus accident that injured a Fountain Rural firefighter on I-587, after a car struck a fire truck that was blocking at the scene of an earlier accident near Farmville.

Fountain Rural Firefighter Steve Coffman was on the back of Rescue 5406 when a car struck the driver's side of the 1990 Mack/E-One rescue[1] at about 3:15 p.m.

The unit was providing blocking on I-587 at the NC 121 overpass, where investigators were working the scene of an earlier fatal collision-with-entrapment and resulting vehicle fire.

Coffman was thrown from of the back of the rescue truck, and sustained injuries consisting of "a broken wrist, road rash, and hip and foot problems."

He was transported to ECU Health Medical Center.

The driver of the colliding car, a 22-year-old male who was impaired, was also transported with serious injuries.

Hydrant maintenance will begin today.

Please be aware that our members will be out in the town painting the fire hydrants. Painting the fire hydrants are a necessity. This will occur over the next 2-3 weeks. Thanks.

⛈️ There is a severe storm threat today (9/5/26). Most of the state is under a Level 2 Threat. Storms may be strong to severe later this afternoon and tonight. Have multiple ways to be informed. Where storms develop, we could see damaging winds, hail, and downpours causing flash flooding.

🔥🌵 And… it’s still hot hot hot out today. Dangerous heat is expected in many areas across the state.

Several communities saw power outages, trees down, and storm water flooding last night. Be aware. Have a plan.

Stay safe today and enjoy your weekend. Hopefully you are cooking something tasty and spending some time with good people.

Please join us on September 11 at 6:30pm at the Historic Courthouse as we gather to honor and remember all the lives lost 25 years ago. This day will forever be in our history. May we never forget!!

***100 years of service***

Tonight during the Board of Aldermen meeting, we honored 2 individuals with a combined 100 years of service.
Retired Fire Chief David Callahan and Retired Fire Chief Steve Lambert. Both have served the firefighting community with 50 years of service each.

Both Chiefs received a plaque commemorating 50 years of service and a key to the city, as well as the NC Office of State Fire Marshal presented them with a Lifetime Achievement award, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Dallas presented a proclamation for both, and Congressmen Tim Moore’s office presented them with a flag that flew over the US Capitol building.

Finally Retired Fire Chief David Callahan was presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award through the State of North Carolina for his 50 years of dedicated service.

Congratulations gentlemen and thank you for your many years of service. Job well done!

***Special Announcement***

We will be honoring 2 great individuals tomorrow evening during the Town Board meeting. Retired Fire Chief Steve Lambert and Retired Fire Chief David Callahan. Both have achieved 50 YEARS serving as a firefighter. What an honor. The meeting starts at 5pm at the Historic Courthouse in Dallas.

Saturday evening, we were requested to standby at Bessemer City FD station as they operated on a 2-alarm fire. Shortly after arriving there, we were dispatched along with other departments to a commercial business fire in 61’s district. Car 63 arrived to find a large barn with heavy smoke and fire showing. Shortly after arrival a 2nd alarm was requested. A short time later the fire was brought under control. Great work by all departments that operated.
