Elevated Fire Danger Today

Monday May 4th

Strong southwest winds gusting up to 30 MPH will combine with warm temperatures and low humidity to produce an Elevated Fire Danger today. If a fire were to start under these conditions, there would be an increased threat of fire spread and be difficult to control.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Use extra caution while operating outdoor equipment and do not carelessly discard ci******es.

With the first real warm weather of the season and everyone looking for a reason to be outside, we are all aware of the need and benefits of burning certain fields, brush piles, ditches etc.
In doing so we ask the public to make sure to call in your controlled burns to your county emergency dispatch center using the NON EMERGENCY numbers.
Plan to provide an address and a contact phone number.
Hancock County: 217-357-2115
Henderson County: 309-867-4291
This applies to residents both inside and outside of city limits.
It is also important that you stay with your burns as they take place. Unattended burns are very likely to be reported by a passerby. With someone visually present that is far less likely to occur.
BURNS THAT ARE FOUND TO BE NOT REPORTED TO THE COUNTY AND OR ARE UNATTENDED WILL LIKELY BE EXTINGUISHED!
You are accountable for your actions.
Help us help you!

Today: Monday March 10th!

There is a critical to very high risk of fire spread today! Expect sunny skies, gusty southwest winds, and near-record highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s! With the gusty winds and dry conditions, any dry grass and brush fires that ignite will have the potential to spread out of control! Avoid burning today. Obey any burn bans in effect. Fully extinguish ci******es and dispose of them properly. Use extra caution with heavy equipment and while grilling or using a fire pit.

As we enter into the closing weeks of the year, it’s always important to stop and take a look back to review the things accomplished and give thanks, before setting new and extended goals and launching into the new year.
Approximately a year ago Dallas Rural Fire District forged ahead with taking on the adjacent property that was known as the “old Legion Hall” through a back tax process.
Once that property (and large project) was secured we approached the neighboring property owner on the other side about access to help with the cleanup process.
Linda Rettig graciously not only offered access, but donated the neighboring property to the fire district in memory of her late husband and long time firefighter Wayne Rettig.
We are forever grateful for the Rettig family’s contributions.
Looking forward, the new space will be utilized for multiple things but with one of the primary focuses on space for training. (More to come later)
