Yesterday afternoon at Murphy Hall, Class 26-006, the 5th BROWN Class started Initial Entry Rotary Wing training and were ready to receive their colors. The BROWN Hat legacy mentor and guest speaker was none other than Lieutenant General (Retired) Anthony Gerard "Tony" Crutchfield. He retired as the deputy commander of United States Pacific Command from 2014 to 2017, having previously served as its chief of staff from 2012 to 2014. An aviation officer by branch, Crutchfield served in several aviation commands throughout his career, to include command of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker from 2010 to 2012. As USAACE commander, he was responsible for the training, doctrine, organizational structure, and future technology development for 90,000 aviation soldiers and over 4,000 aircraft. He retired on April 7, 2017, after 34 years of distinguished service.

He now serves as vice president for Army Systems - Defense, Space and Security Government Operations for The Boeing Company, joining the company in July 2017.

LTG(R) Crutchfield shared several stories and repeatedly reinforced "STANDARDS" over and over throughout his time. After 25 minutes, he took questions and gave a few more pieces of advice before donning the hats. Here's a few quotes from the general.

"Never ever, ever, ever fly over your own house"

"Never ever, ever use the words - "WATCH THIS" and furthermore "Hold my beer and watch this"

"There are two types of aviators, old ones and bold ones, but they're not old bold ones"

After the photo opportunity, LTG Crutchfield gave high fives to the new fellow brown hats and as he left, talked with Spartan 06 (LTC Bartlett) who was covering down on COL Hill. LTC Andrew Bartlett shared the Warrior 06 philosophy and then a bit of his own before handing the reigns over to Warrior 08 (CW5 Dennis Eelkema) for a senior warrant officer and stands perspective.

Congratulations to the new BROWN class, looking forward to seeing you on the line soon.

What's really nice to see in the flyovers of games is the fact that all of the piloting the aircraft were trained by our flight instructors here at the Warrior Brigade. Contractors, Army Civilian Professionals and those in uniform work everyday to produce the pilots that not only flyover the games, but conduct all the missions required of our service and branch. Great job 82nd CAB.

This morning, the Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander, CPT Dakota Defreece and First Sergeant, 1SG Donnie Taylor conducted some hip-pocket training with sections of the brigade staff on memorandums using AR 25-50. With all things Army, things change and empowering those on the staff of proper Department of War guidance using regulations is critical. Everyone learned something new and have a broader appeture now on memorandums.
