Literacy Volunteers of America - Prince William, Inc.

Literacy Volunteers of America - Prince William, Inc. All classes are free! Literacy Volunteers of America-Prince William, Inc. was founded in 1991 by local librarian Dona Swanson.

For 35 years, Literacy Volunteers of America–Prince William (LVA-PW) has helped adults in Prince William County gain dignity, equity, and inspiration through the
gift of literacy and health literacy. The mission of LVA-PW is to improve lives through adult literacy. LVA-PW is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a nationwide organization of over 1,200 member programs. Volunteers from the community

are trained to be tutors and then matched with adults who want to improve their literacy or English language skills. LVA-PW provides the professional training, materials, and support that enable volunteers to be effective tutors. The only cost to adult learners is a one-time fee of $100 for the initial assessment required for entry into the LVA-PW program. If you would like more information, would like to sign up for the Tutor Training Workshop or have questions concerning LVA-PW, call the office at (703) 670-5702, or email the LVA-PW staff at [email protected]. Are you, or someone you know, interested in working on reading or writing skills, preparing for the GED, or improving English language skills? Please call the office and set up an appointment with the Program Administrator and we will start the process.

πŸ’š Vitamins: Small Nutrients, Big Impact! πŸ’š

Vitamins may be needed in small amounts, but they play a big role in keeping our bodies healthy. Through our recent Health Literacy class, students learned about essential vitamins, signs of deficiencies, and how healthy food choices can support overall wellness.

By building knowledge about nutrition and healthy habits, students are gaining the tools they need to make informed decisions and lead healthier lives. πŸ’šπŸ₯¦

🌟 Small nutrients can make a big difference in our health and well-being.

πŸ’œ Domestic Violence Awareness: Education Creates Safer Communities

Domestic violence can affect anyone, and raising awareness is an important step toward prevention and support. Through our recent class, students learned about healthy relationships, warning signs of abuse, safety planning, community resources, and ways to seek help.

By learning and sharing this knowledge, we can help build safer, stronger, and more supportive communities for everyone. πŸ’œ
