Today members of MVFD and many other departments joined together to have the Tri-State Mutual Aid Association annual swiftwater rescue technician class. Thank you Hamilton County Special Tactics & Rescue Services...(STARS) for hosting this course. There were a lot of skills learned today by some of the best! Tomorrow all students and instructor will return for the final day of skills. It’s so wonderful seeing so many departments working together to provide the best they can for their communities!

This course provides the foundation for Fire/Rescue/EMS chaplain service and teaches an established and credentialed system of protocols in order to provide chaplaincy to emergency service workers and the public.

Earlier today, around 3:30 PM, a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputy was traveling southbound along the 14100 block of Dayton Pike when suddenly a deer entered the roadway, became airborne, and crashed through the deputy’s windshield, landing in the passenger seat.

The deputy sustained minor injuries; however, the deer was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and the HCSO Traffic Unit was notified to conduct a follow-up investigation at a later time.

Remember, as more people (and apparently deer) will be on the roadways this holiday weekend, be alert to your surroundings and do your best to utilize safe driving practices.

This information is preliminary and subject to change. No further details are available.

During the Commission meeting held May 5th and May 6th in Gatlinburg, the Commission discussed the accuracy of the HMA and HMO tests. Specifically, the concern was whether the test banks were validated out of the Jones & Bartlett, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, 4th Edition textbook, or the Fundamentals of Firefighter Skills and Hazardous Materials Response 5th edition textbook. Up to this point, the Firefighting Commission has listed both textbooks for the certifications on our website.

We have conducted a thorough review of the tests, including consultation with the publisher, and have determined that the test banks that were validated, are the same test banks for both textbooks. This means that either textbook will work for firefighters who are studying for the tests and/or approved in-house courses that use the textbooks for their curriculum. The primary change between the two is that the 5th edition book incorporated the NFPA 1010 changes for Firefighter I and II. Since the NFPA cycle for hazardous materials and firefighter I and II qualifications offset, both textbooks adhere to the NFPA 470, Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Standard for Responders, 2022 edition.

We did identify one version of the tests that had a small number of questions that we weren’t able to correlate to the test bank. We have replaced these questions with questions from the validated test bank and are in the process of outfitting our proctors with the correct version.

You’ll notice that our website will list the associated textbooks for these disciplines as, “Jones & Bartlett Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, 4th edition or Fundamentals of Firefighter Skills and Hazardous Materials Response, 5th edition” to reflect the results of our internal review.

Thank you for the flexibility and patience while we worked through this. As always, feel free to reach out to the Commission if there are any questions or concerns.

🚑🚑 Happy EMS Week🚑🚑

Mowbray Fire is one of the few departments in the county that run ALL medical calls. Due to our rural area it can take time for an ambulance to arrive on scene so we are sure to respond to all calls with professional medically trained personnel. At MVFD we have everyone from EMR to Paramedic. Keeping our community safe is our number one priority.

We also would like to say happy EMS week to our partners at Hamilton County EMS. The amount of work they put in is tremendous. We are very grateful to have a great agency on the ambulance.

MVFD also assist Sequatchie County on the Lewis Chapel side when Puckett EMS needs assistance for their rural areas.

Thank you for all who provide life saving care to our nation!

Today we recognize:
❤️ The mothers who proudly serve on this department — balancing strength, sacrifice, and family while answering the call to help others.

❤️ The moms and wives at home who hold everything together while their firefighters are away on calls, training, and long shifts. Your support keeps this department strong.

❤️ And the mothers who trust us with their sons and daughters each time they put on the uniform. Thank you for the faith you place in us to stand beside them and help bring them home safely.

Behind every firefighter is a family making sacrifices too.

Today and everyday, we honor all the mothers whose love, support, courage, and prayers help protect our community every single day.

From all of us at Mowbray fire department — Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for everything you do. 🚒❤️

Today Mowbray was called to assist Puckett for an EMS call in Sequatchie county. MVFD assisted on the call as well as setting up a landing zone, and standing by during patient loading, and take off. Landing zone was established at our old firehall location. MVFD is proud to assist our community and any in the area needing assistance. Great job Mowbray, Puckett, and Sequatchie Sherriffs Office, and AirVac!
