The City of Daingerfield is pleased to share that permits have now been issued for the Cubbies Travel Center development at 201 Cotton Street, and work is beginning.

This project has been a long time coming. Initial discussions with the developers began in 2021–2022, and building permits were issued in 2024 when the developers were ready to begin construction. Shortly after the property was cleared and early site work began, including work on the retaining wall and pad, additional TxDOT access permit requirements and roadway-related items paused the project while those matters were reviewed and resolved.

Since that time, the City has continued working with the developers, engineers, and TxDOT to help move the project forward. This process included roadway and access coordination, review of Cotton Street ownership, traffic study requirements, utility planning, and infrastructure improvements necessary to support the development.

The City Council has been supportive of this project from the beginning and has taken several steps to assist with its success. This includes coordinating with TxDOT as access and traffic requirements changed, moving forward with plans to replace the aging 6-inch clay sewer line that runs across the property, and approving a 7-year tax abatement to help offset significant infrastructure costs associated with the development once the project is completed.

We know many citizens have been watching this project closely and have been eager to see progress on the site. While the process has taken longer than anticipated, the City has remained committed to supporting responsible growth and economic development while ensuring that the required infrastructure, utility, and state permitting processes were properly addressed.

The Cubbies Travel Center is expected to bring at least 15 full-time jobs to Daingerfield, increase local economic activity, and support continued growth in our community.

We appreciate the patience of our citizens as this project has moved through the required local and state processes. We are excited to see construction moving forward and look forward to welcoming Cubbies Travel Center to Daingerfield.

Thank you to the developers, TxDOT, City Council, and everyone involved in helping move this project to the construction phase.

Big news for Morris County and Northeast Texas! The Lone Star Mega-Site has been selected for CPKC’s Site Ready Program — the only Texas site currently recognized. This milestone reflects strong teamwork between local partners and industry leaders, creating new opportunities for industrial growth, jobs, and future investment right here at home. The future is looking bright for Lone Star, Daingerfield, and all of Morris County.

We’re proud to share that the Texas & Northern Railway, an affiliate company of Transtar and the Wheeling & Lake Erie, has had its Lone Star, Texas Mega-Site selected as part of CPKC’s Room to Grow Site Ready program. The T&N directly serves the Lone Star Mega Site, connecting it to the US, Mexico and Canada through CPKC. The site covers nearly 800 acres and can support up to 4 million square feet of rail-served warehouse and distribution space.

This recognition follows months of collaboration with the Morris County (TX) Economic Development Corporation, the City of Lone Star, the City of Daingerfield, CPKC, and Burns & McDonnell to position the site for rail-served industrial development.

Being included among the latest Site Ready locations across CPKC’s North American network highlights the strength of this partnership and the potential of the Lone Star Mega-Site to support future industrial growth.

With built-in rail access, significant available acreage, and proximity to major markets and transportation corridors, this designation helps position the site for faster project timelines and new investment opportunities.

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the women who have helped shape the City of Daingerfield.

In July of 1980, Stella Fretwell made history when she became the first woman to serve on the Daingerfield City Council. Her service opened the door for women to step forward and serve their community.

Since that time, the women who have served on the Daingerfield City Council are: Debbie Spencer (Poe), Laura Mabey, Sue Hill, Nancy Stirl, Martha Campbell, and Vicki Smith. These women have each contributed to the leadership and progress of our community.

In 1998, Lou Irvin became the first female Mayor of Daingerfield and went on to serve 24 years, making her the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history and leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and dedication to the community.

Most recently, Vicki Smith, elected in 2022, became the first Black woman to serve on the Daingerfield City Council, marking another meaningful milestone in our city’s history.

Today, we honor these women and thank them for their service to the citizens of Daingerfield. Their leadership continues to inspire future generations to serve their hometown.
