Dahlonega Cemetery Committee Monthly meetings are held the 4th Thursday of each month at 6 pm.

The Dahlonega Cemetery Committee consists of five,
volunteers who advise the Dahlonega City Council on matters of municipal cemetery preservation, maintenance and future use.

On Juneteenth, we honor the memory of Isaac Rucker 1844-1915.
Rucker was a slave on a plantation in Lumpkin County who escaped with two of his brothers to Knoxville Tennessee in 1864. They all joined up with the 1st United States Colored Troops Heavy Artillery and served until the end of the war.

After the war, Isaac returned as a free man to Dahlonega where he became a successful farmer and member of the black community until his death in 1915.

A quick Saturday project. We cleaned the gravestone of Mary A. Thomas in the historic section of Mt. Hope yesterday. Here are the photos showing before, just after cleaning with Orvus and D2, and this morning after the headstone has dried.

Week 3 results of the D2 vs Endurance cleaning solution challenge. There doesn't appear to be much difference in the overall look of either headstone. Both look much better than before cleaning.
