The attack on 25 July at Berlin Pride is a stark reminder that the right to celebrate who you are, safely and openly, cannot be taken for granted. Pride was born as a protest, and in many places it still has to be one.

The EU stands with the LGBTIQ+ community, in Germany and everywhere. Defending the right to live openly, without fear, is not a seasonal gesture, it is a continuous commitment. Hate does not get the last word.

Russia managed to occupy only a few square kilometres of Ukrainian territory in May 2026 - its slowest advance in three years. At the same time, it attacked Ukrainian cities 8,351 times - the highest number since March 2022.

At least 274 civilians were killed and 1,763 injured: the highest toll since April 2022, and almost double the figure recorded in May 2025.

When Russia cannot advance, it terrorises. Ukrainian civilians pay the price.

Youth satisfaction with democracy is declining across many established democracies. But what does this really mean and what is behind the data?

This June, we are bringing together youth-led organizations from across Canada and the EU for the first time to collaboratively explore these questions. Drawing on cross-Atlantic experiences, community knowledge, and youth expertise, participants will work together to develop shared policy recommendations for strengthening democratic engagement. These recommendations will be shared with policymakers and will also help lay the groundwork for future collaboration and shared advocacy across the Atlantic.

Over the next two weeks, we will be spotlighting the youth organizations involved to highlight the important work they do. We invite you to follow along, learn from these organizations, and join us in recognizing youth-led organizations as essential partners in strengthening democracy.
