Putting new skills to the test!

Students on their Assault Pioneer Course developed their skills and confidence by building inert explosive charges in a classroom setting before completing a complex demolitions range that had them apply explosive charges to wooden, concrete, steel, and wire targets. The course concluded their successful range by performing a cratering. Assault Pioneers utilize demolitions to provide Canada’s Light Infantry Battalions mobility and counter-mobility support at home and abroad.

On D-Day, in the early hours of June 6th, 1944, Canadian soldiers approached their objective by landing craft. Despite being cold, wet, and seasick, they remained confident and determined as they began their assault on Juno Beach, marking the start of Operation Overlord and the Battle of Normandy.

The eventual victory would mark a critical turning point during the Second World War, but it came at a heavy cost. By the end of the Battle of Normandy Canada suffered 18,444 casualties, of whom 5,021 would never return home.

We will never forget their bravery and their heroism. It remains an inspiration to every soldier who wears the uniform today. We will remember them.

Canadian Army Reserve soldiers from 33 Canadian Brigade Group honed their combat skills on Exercise WOLFPACK AMBUSH, a live-fire, simulated combat exercise building readiness, lethality, and teamwork across infantry, artillery, and engineer elements. This realistic training reflects Canadian Army modernization and ensures Reservists are prepared to contribute to Canada’s sovereignty and to support our NATO allies.
