Today Dafter Fire with the help of Fire Catt conducted our annual hose and ground ladder testing. 🚒 Every hose and ladder was inspected and tested to ensure it’s safe, reliable, and ready for emergencies. This testing helps us meet MI-OSHA and NFPA standards while also helping maintain our community’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating.

It may not be the flashy side of the fire service, but it’s one of the most important parts of staying response-ready for our community.

We would like to thank Lake Superior State University and Lake Superior State University Fire/EMS Program & ERT for letting us use a parking lot for this.

Bring the entire family out for this community event. Boaters safety is very important, especially for those with children.

Dafter Fire is recruiting firefighters. Like many small-town departments, we are always working to build and strengthen our team so we can continue providing good service to our community for years to come.

No experience is needed. We provide the training, gear, and support. We’re simply looking for dependable people who are willing to learn, work as a team, and help their neighbors when needed.

Being a firefighter is a rewarding way to give back to the community, learn valuable skills, and be part of a close group of people with a shared purpose.

If you’ve ever thought about joining the fire service, we’d be happy to talk with you. Send our page a message to learn more.

Press Release:

On 04/30/2026, at approximately 1943 hours, Kinross Fire was dispatched for a smoke investigation in a remote wooded area near M-80 and Gaines Highway. Which led to the discovery of a fully involved cabin fire, prompting assistance from neighboring agencies.

Due to the cabin’s isolated location and limited access, crews coordinated a targeted response using off-road vehicles and portable water equipment to access the scene and establish effective fire suppression.

There were no reported injures and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

We would like to thank Pickford Fire, Rudyard Fire, and Dafter Fire for their rapid response. They also provided manpower, water supply, and overhaul operations on scene. And as always, a huge thank you to Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
