After 4 years of dedicated service as fire chief, Chief Tim Peterson submitted his notice of resignation, which will take effect on February 21, 2025. During his tenure with SWVF&R, first as a firefighter and then as chief, he modeled service, sought (and made) department-wide improvements, forged relationships with surrounding departments, and looked to the future of the department with a strategic eye - We appreciate the MANY contributions and improvements Chief Peterson made at SWVF&R and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

We (the firefighters) didn’t do a great job taking pictures of Chief Peterson in action (sorry Chief) but these are some of the headliners.

The chief’s position must be filled and emergencies wait for no one, so we proudly announce that Jason McCullars will be promoted to Fire Chief following Chief Peterson’s departure.

What good is a shiny fire truck if you are inefficient at moving water - or worse yet, don’t know how to move water? What good is a fire hose if you haven’t practiced techniques? Not much, and that’s why Chief Peterson and Asst. Chief Still took us back to the basics with pump operations and hose drills. Tonight we trained at Station 2 on Barrons Bridge Road, but keep an eye out and you might see us running a drill or scenario in your area of the neighborhood.

While many, maybe most, roads in our district are now passable, there ARE STILL ICY PATCHES present. Please exercise unusual, heightened caution if you are driving tonight or tomorrow morning. Yes, that means driving slow, hands at 10 and 2, and with your phone safely on hands free/carplay mode.
