Last week, the Cypress Police Department attended the 2026 Orange County Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy to honor the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The ceremony paid tribute to fallen law enforcement personnel, including Cypress Police Department Sergeant Donald Sowma, as well as the officers and deputies who gave their lives while serving and protecting their communities.

While fireworks may seem harmless, they can easily ignite nearby trash, vegetation, buildings, and other property… especially during dry conditions. Even “safe and sane” fireworks can lead to dangerous and costly fires when improperly used or disposed of.

Residents are reminded that the City of Cypress Municipal Code prohibits the possession, sale, and use of ANY fireworks within city limits. Violations may result in citations, fines, and criminal charges.

Please celebrate responsibly and help keep our community safe. If you see illegal fireworks activity, report it to the Cypress Police Department non-emergency line.
