Little ones are naturally curious around water, and constant supervision is the strongest layer of protection. Even shallow water requires an adult within arm’s reach. Take a moment today to review your home and outdoor spaces for water safety.

June 2nd is National Cancer Survivors Day!
Today we remember and support those with cancer, those in remission, family and friends of someone with cancer, and our medical professionals. The effects of cancer don’t end when treatment does. Cancer survivors face ongoing, sometimes lifelong, hardships because of their disease.

Attention Healthcare Providers:
Lead testing and timely reporting play a critical role in protecting children from the lifelong impacts of lead exposure.

Reminder:
• Medicaid-enrolled children are required to receive blood lead testing at 12 and 24 months of age
• Children with elevated blood lead levels (≥3.5 μg/dL) must be reported to the local health department
• Capillary lead levels ≥3.5 μg/dL should receive confirmatory venous testing
Prompt reporting allows WEDCO District Health Department to provide education, environmental follow-up, and supportive services to families who may be at risk for continued exposure.

Our goal is to work collaboratively with providers and families to reduce lead exposure, improve education, and connect families to helpful resources — not to create additional burden.

Thank you for your continued partnership in protecting the health and development of children in our communities.
