Congratulations to DeWitt Elementary School for being recognized by the State of Ohio as a Purple Star School! 💜⭐

The Purple Star designation honors schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families through dedicated resources, programming, and community support during times of transition and service.

DeWitt Elementary was represented by Principal Jennifer Skala, music teacher Emily Marsh, and district military family liaison Peggy Whitcomb, who were presented with a certificate by Superintendent Andrea Celico on behalf of the Board of Education for their leadership and dedication in helping DeWitt earn this important distinction.

We are proud of the supportive environment DeWitt continues to create for all students and families, especially those who serve our country.

We are honored to celebrate three of DeWitt's very best on their retirement! Mrs. Newsome has taught for Cuyahoga Falls for 47 years, spending many years at DeWitt teaching 1st grade. Mrs. Thomas has taught 2nd grade at DeWitt for 35 years after student teaching at Silver Lake. Mrs. Randolph spent the past year getting the district's first year of preschool started, but prior to that she dedicated many years as a Title 1 teacher at DeWitt. Please join us in celebrating these amazing ladies, whose careers have touched hundreds of young children in our community. We wish them a wonderful retirement filled with rest, joy, and adventure!

A Farewell Note and Thank You from Principal Skala

DeWitt Families,

I am writing to share some bittersweet news about the upcoming school year. After five years serving as your principal, I have accepted a new position with the State Support Team as the Regional Literacy Specialist, serving Summit, Medina, and Portage counties. I will be transitioning to this next chapter at the conclusion of the school year. I am excited to share the amazing things we have accomplished at DeWitt and bring them to our neighboring school districts. It has been an honor to lead our school, and I am incredibly proud of the strong community we have built and sustained together during my time at DeWitt.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your unwavering confidence, partnership, and support over the past five years. A school is only as strong as the community that surrounds it, and your dedication to your children’s education and our school's vision has made my time here extraordinarily fulfilling. I have truly enjoyed getting to know your families, watching your children grow, and sharing in their milestones and achievements. The memories and connections I have made here are deeply meaningful and will remain with me always!

Please rest assured that I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth, seamless transition for our students, staff, and families in the coming days. Our school district's leadership is already taking the necessary steps to select a new principal who will build upon our school's strengths and lead it forward into its next successful chapter. Thank you once again for your shared dedication and for allowing me the privilege of being a part of your children's educational journey!

DeWitt Weekly Update

To wrap up the year, be sure your child has turned in their library books and checked the lost and found. Be sure you have paid your child’s student fees so that they can participate in the end-of-the-year activities.

Check out our summer resource list for families - see website here. The list includes summer camp and recreational opportunities, as well as food resources available throughout the summer months.

As we wrap up the school year, the lunch menu adjusts to make sure we use up what we have on hand.

Throughout the week, there may be additional alternative main dishes, but the items listed will also be served.

Congratulations to our Jim Tressel Fitness Challenge winners! These students in 3rd-5th grade were challenged this second semester to set and achieve goals to build healthy, lifelong habits: cardio, strength, flexibility, nutrition, and sleep. To celebrate their hard work Mr.Lee surprised them with a trip to the bowling alley on Tuesday! Thank you to our PTO for providing funding for this reward.

Today we got to zoom with our favorite author, Drew Daywalt! Mr. Daywalt wrote the winning book in our book bracket, “The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors” and other popular books like, “The Day the Crayons Quit”. He shared a book that he just published, “Forty the Fortune Teller”. We enjoyed learning how to become an author through his humor! Thank you Drew Daywalt for taking time out of your day for the kids of DeWitt Elementary!
