Thank You, Sanford Health SIM-SD!

Custer Ambulance Service was proud to host the Sanford Health SIM-SD Mobile Simulation Lab in Custer on September 23.

This was a valuable opportunity for our crews to participate in realistic, hands-on “LIVE” simulation training focused on strengthening clinical skills, teamwork, communication, and decision-making in a safe and controlled learning environment.

Sanford Health also invited members from our surrounding EMS and public safety agencies to participate, giving responders from across the region the opportunity to train and learn together. These shared training experiences help strengthen the communication, teamwork, and relationships that are so important when multiple agencies come together during real-world emergencies.

We are grateful to Sanford Health and the SIM-SD team for bringing this outstanding educational resource to our community, and we were honored to host the event at Custer Ambulance Service.

🚑💙 THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING CUSTER AMBULANCE! 💙🚑

What an incredible weekend! Our very first fundraising event was a huge success, and we are so grateful to everyone from our Custer community, as well as all of the visitors who joined us for the Buffalo Roundup and Arts in the Park, who stopped by, purchased merchandise, made a donation, or simply took the time to learn more about Custer Ambulance.

Custer Ambulance Service is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing emergency medical services to western Custer County through the Custer Ambulance District. We are not part of the fire department or county, and the support of our community, visitors, and friends makes a meaningful difference in our ability to continue serving those who live, work, and travel throughout our area.

To every one of our Champions who supported us this weekend — THANK YOU! Your generosity helps us continue our mission of caring for our community when it matters most.

🚒 Thank You to Our First Responder Partners!

Yesterday’s structure fire was a reminder of the importance of having dedicated, well-trained first responders in our community.

We want to recognize Custer Volunteer Fire Department for their quick, professional response and hard work in managing the incident. We also extend our sincere thanks to all the agencies and personnel who responded, assisted, and worked together to help keep our community safe.

These calls take teamwork, coordination, and a commitment to serving others. We are grateful to work alongside such dedicated professionals and proud of the strong partnerships that make our community safer.

After a medical emergency call is placed to 911, many people are surprised to learn how quickly emergency services begin working behind the scenes.

Here's a look at the process:
🔹A dispatcher receives your call and gathers critical information.
🔹Emergency responders are alerted and dispatched.
🔹Crews respond to your location as quickly and safely as possible.
🔹Medical assessment and treatment begin upon arrival.
🔹If necessary, patients are transported for additional care.
It's also important to know that Custer Ambulance Service is an independent nonprofit organization focused on providing emergency medical services. While we work closely with other public safety agencies, we operate separately and have a distinct role in emergency response.

As summer transitions into fall, community events continue to bring people together across the Black Hills, and Custer Ambulance Service is proud to help support them. Throughout the season, our team provides EMS standby coverage at select local events, helping ensure that emergency medical care is available if needed.
