Custer School District is located in Custer County in the southwest part of South Dakota. Custer City is 45 minutes from Rapid City, 5 minutes from Crazy Horse Memorial, and 25 minutes from Mt. The school district is comprised of the county of Custer, except for the far western portion of the county, and a small portion of Pennington County and is approximately 1200 square miles while the County o

f Custer is approximately 1550 square miles. Almost fifty percent of the district’s land is federally or state owned which includes the Black Hills National Forest, Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, and Bureau of Land Management properties. Custer County’s main industry is tourism. Custer Regional Hospital is the largest employer in the community. Custer County has two major communities: Custer City and Hermosa. According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010 the population of the county was 8,216. The median age in the county is 43, while more than 23%of the population is aged 65 or higher. Custer County is growing in population in the area of retired individuals but not in the area of school-aged children. On the east side of the district, in the Hermosa area in particular, we are seeing increasing development. The Custer School District has K-12 accreditation from the State of South Dakota.

Please join us in celebrating Tamara Adam, Area Director in Western South Dakota and Nebraska, as she retires after 12 years with Lunchtime Solutions.

Tammie began her journey with Lunchtime Solutions in 2014 at the Custer School District, starting as a Cashier, was promoted to Kitchen Manager, and then Food Service Director. In 2021, she stepped into her current role as Area Director, where her leadership, dedication, and unwavering support for her team have made a lasting impact. We will truly miss her passion for fueling the minds of the future and her commitment to ensuring students received delicious, nutritious meals each and every day.

Today, Custer High School senior Holly Nielsen visited the school administration office to donate $140, representing 75% of her FCCLA project donations, to the CSD TeamMates Mentoring Program, citing her desire to support initiatives that foster community development and interpersonal relationships. The remaining donations will be allocated back to the Custer FCCLA chapter. Nielsen's FCCLA project, Petals of Appreciation, secured first place at the state level, and she will soon represent at the national competition in Washington, D.C. The accomplishments and contributions of Holly Nielsen to both the school and the broader community make us proud! Another successful weekend for the Custer High School Rodeo Team at the second round of Region competition in New Underwood!

🏆 Kylee Ellerton placed 2nd in Goat Tying both Saturday and Sunday, winning the average and taking home a buckle.

🐎 Addie Sander finished 6th on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday in Barrel Racing. She also placed 6th in Pole Bending on Sunday, earning enough points to qualify for the State High School Rodeo Finals.

🤠 Colton Dorrance earned 2nd place in Bull Riding on Saturday, securing his qualification for state.

🎉 Jayden Lange placed 10th in Pole Bending on Sunday, earning the additional point needed to qualify for state.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on their hard work and accomplishments! We wish our state qualifiers the best of luck as they head to the South Dakota State High School Rodeo Finals in Fort Pierre later this week.
