The Stennis Center for Public Service is a bipartisan legislative branch agency created by Congress in 1988 to promote and strengthen the highest ideals of public service in America. The Stennis Center develops and delivers a portfolio of unique programs for young people, leaders in local, state, and federal government, and congressional staff. The Stennis Center for Public Service’s congressional

mandate is to attract young people to careers in public service, provide training for leaders in, or likely to be in, public service, and offer training and development opportunities for senior congressional staff, members of Congress, and other public service leaders.

Meet the 2026–2027 Public Service Review Editorial Board!

We’re excited to introduce the newest Editorial Board of the Public Service Review, the Stennis Center for Public Service’s quarterly publication dedicated to thoughtful conversation, ideas, and perspectives on public service.

This talented group of students brings together diverse academic backgrounds and a shared commitment to making a difference through public service. Many are also alumni of the Stennis Program for Congressional Interns.

As members of the Editorial Board, they review and shape submissions, help guide the publication’s content, and promote the Public Service Review—gaining valuable experience while helping advance the Stennis Center’s mission and values.

Congratulations to Mehek Saha, Fisher Mallon, and Cate Gregory — Summer 2026 Student Service Corps (SSC) Public Service Fellows!

We’re proud to welcome three outstanding fellows from the Summer 2026 Stennis Program for Congressional Interns cohort to the Student Service Corps. Each brings a unique perspective and a strong commitment to public service.

Mehek Saha | Vanderbilt University
Mehek studies Economics and National Security at Vanderbilt. She recently interned for Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) before joining Congressman French Hill’s office (R-AR-02), Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. At Vanderbilt, she serves as a research assistant and Vice President of Vandy Votes. She is particularly interested in the intersection of financial policy and national security.

Fisher Mallon | Duke University
Fisher studies Environmental Science & Policy and Economics at Duke. He co-founded a pro bono environmental consultancy and leads research on financed emissions. His experience includes internships with the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and an energy-focused think tank. Fisher hopes to pursue federal climate and energy policy.

Cate Gregory | University of California, Los Angeles
Cate studies Environmental Science and Public Affairs at UCLA. She recently interned with the U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms and previously worked in the District Office of Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32). At UCLA, she leads the Sustainability Goals Committee and is a Senior Consultant with Net Impact. She hopes to pursue environmental law and return to Capitol Hill.

Over the next year, Mehek, Fisher, and Cate will serve on the Editorial Board of the Public Service Review, contributing their perspectives and experiences to conversations on public service and leadership.

We look forward to seeing how they continue to contribute to the Stennis Center and the broader public service community.

Alex William Chen, Managing Editor of the Public Service Review, and Ethan Herrod, Editorial Board Member and Stennis Intern, recently traveled to Starkville and Jackson, Mississippi, for a series of meaningful visits centered on leadership, public service, and higher education.

During their trip, they met with Kennedy Guest, J.D., and Ronny Frith, both past contributors to the Public Service Review. Ronny has also dedicated nearly five decades to serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Their conversations offered valuable perspectives on leadership, public service, and the importance of experience in state government.

Together with Dr. Brian Pugh, Executive Director of the Stennis Center, and Savannah Wood, Communications Coordinator for the Stennis Center, Alex and Ethan also visited the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, Mississippi State University, and Tougaloo College. At Mississippi State University, the group had the opportunity to tour the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and explore the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana, the nation’s largest privately owned collection of Abraham Lincoln research and display materials.

The Public Service Review is grateful for the opportunity to connect with exceptional leaders and institutions that continue to educate and inspire the next generation of public servants.

Interns from the Summer 2026 Stennis Congressional Intern Program recently had the privilege of attending the USS Harry S. Truman Leadership Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Stennis Center for Public Service. The event celebrated sailors from the USS Harry S. Truman whose dedication and leadership exemplify the highest standards of service.

The luncheon provided a meaningful opportunity for interns to engage with military leaders, learn about leadership in high-stakes environments, and gain valuable perspectives on service, teamwork, and responsibility. Also in attendance were Quinn Luong, Editorial Board Member of the Public Service Review, and Dr. Terry Babcock-Lumish, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, whose leadership and dedication to public service continue to inspire future generations.

Thank you to the leadership and crew of the USS Harry S. Truman for their hospitality and for investing in the next generation of public servants. Congratulations to this year's Leadership Award recipients on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your service to our nation.

Another incredible Stennis Congressional Internship Program is in the books!

Congratulations to our Summer 2026 cohort on successfully completing the program. Over the past several weeks, these interns made the most of every opportunity—engaging with speakers, asking thoughtful questions, exchanging ideas with their peers, and expanding their understanding of Congress beyond their day-to-day internship experiences.

Through conversations with current and former congressional staff, participants explored the legislative process, leadership, public service, and the many career paths available on and off Capitol Hill. Just as importantly, they built relationships with fellow interns from offices across Congress that we hope will last well beyond this summer.

We were proud to celebrate their accomplishments with a certificate ceremony recognizing their commitment to learning and professional growth.

Thank you to the speakers, mentors, alumni, and staff who generously shared their time and experiences to make this program possible. And to our Summer 2026 interns—thank you for bringing your curiosity, enthusiasm, and unique perspectives to every session. We look forward to following your journeys and seeing the impact you'll make in public service and beyond.

The 119th Congress Stennis Congressional Staff Fellows recently gathered at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, for their Closing Retreat, an opportunity to reflect on their leadership journeys and build momentum for the remainder of the fellowship.

Throughout the weekend, Fellows explored leadership transformation, continued professional development, and Appreciative Inquiry. Together, they reflected on their experiences, strengthened the relationships they've built, and identified ways to turn new insights into action back on Capitol Hill.

A heartfelt thank you to our Fellows for showing up with curiosity, authenticity, and a commitment to learning from one another. Your engagement is what makes this program so meaningful.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to our exceptional facilitator, Cynthia Edmunds of Anchor Connections, whose thoughtful leadership, expertise, and ability to foster honest, impactful conversations helped make the retreat such a valuable experience.

While there is still more to come in the fellowship, this retreat was an important milestone, and we're excited to see what's next for this outstanding cohort.

A Conversation on Leadership

The Stennis Center's Emerging Leaders Program recently kicked off its first roundtable discussion, bringing participants together for an engaging conversation on one of today's most important topics: political polarization.

Led by Dr. Frances Lee of Princeton University, the session encouraged Emerging Leaders to examine the causes and consequences of polarization while exploring opportunities for constructive dialogue and effective leadership. Through thoughtful discussion and diverse perspectives, participants gained valuable insights into the challenges facing our political institutions and the importance of bridging divides.

What keeps Congress running behind the scenes? During Session 3 of the Summer 2026 Stennis Congressional Intern Program, interns had the opportunity to find out through an insightful panel featuring leaders from some of Congress's most essential nonpartisan support offices.

Representatives from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Senate Legislative Counsel, and the House Reading Clerk's Office shared how their work helps lawmakers make informed decisions, draft legislation, and carry out the legislative process with accuracy and integrity.

The discussion gave interns a unique perspective on the people whose expertise keeps the legislative branch functioning every day. From budget analysis and legal drafting to parliamentary procedure, each panelist highlighted the critical role that nonpartisan public servants play in supporting Congress and the American people.

Thank you to our incredible panelists for sharing your time, expertise, and commitment to public service. Your insights made Session 3 an engaging and memorable experience for our Summer 2026 interns.
