Coin Collecting Booth at Scouting Festival

Cupertino Coin Club (CCC) hosted a coin collecting booth for 4,000 attendees at Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, Scouting America's annual Scouting Festival called Scout-O-Rama on Sunday, May 9, 2026 at History Park San Jose. Huge thank yous go to CCC's club and board members Don P, Ivan L (youth), Gran & Griffin G, Dan & Cam (youth) S, Richard S, Suzy T, and Emile M. Our booth was placed between the information booth and the bug booth on the main road that runs through the park. There was a lot of traffic in this area of the park. Lots of families with youth between the ages of 5 and 17 stopped by to learn about numismatics. We had a number of give-aways to start kids' coin collections, including coin folders, pennies, and foreign coins. Flyers were handed out for our next Scouting America Coin Collecting Merit Badge Workshop in October as well as club information on when and where and we meet. There were hands-on activities, teaching them about counterfeit coins, how to determine coin values, and introducing them to reposse coins. This is our second year hosting a booth at this event. It was a huge success! We are already registered for next year's event, the day before Mother's Day at History Park San Jose. This is a full-day event that all families should not miss, both Scouting and non-Scouting. There are so many fun booths to visit and learn about outdoor activities and hobbies. We will be there. Come visit us!

Submit Your Medal Design for 2027!

Our August general meeting will feature the medal design contest for our 2027 medal. If you want to submit a design, please read the rules below:
• Members in good standing are eligible (all dues paid and current).
• The design must be on unlined paper in a circle of six to eight inches in diameter.
• The subject matter of your reverse design should be something memorable about Cupertino, cultural significance, or historical in nature. Repeat or similar designs of past medal will not be accepted. Your design may be in the form of a single photo, postcard, or group of drawings in one design. Not all members of our club are artists, so the subject matter may consist of cutout pictures and the like. The better the artwork, the better the design work with our minter.
• You may submit an explanation of your design.
• You may submit a maximum of two designs.
• The designer’s name or initials may not appear on the design or design explanation. Initials will be added after the winning design is selected.
• If your entry is of a private, commercial, trademarked, or copyrighted subject matter, then you must obtain written permission from the rights holder. If permission is not granted, then the runner-up design will be used.
• The following information must be included on the design: “53rd Coin Show” and “St. Joseph of Cupertino Church”. Because we don’t yet know the date of our 2027 show please insert just the year 2027 into your design. We reserve the right to add the full date of the 2027 show once it has been decided upon and confirmed with the location.
• All entries may be submitted at a general club meeting or mailed to the club at: CCC Medal Design, P.O. Box 448, Cupertino, CA 95015-0448.
• All entries must be delivered to Medals Chair Emile M by 8:00 PM at our August 7, 2026 meeting or arrive at our club’s PO Box by July 31, 2026. The entries will be voted upon by our membership at our August 8, 2026 general meeting.
• In the event of identical design submissions, the first design submitted will be entered in the design contest.
• The winning design becomes the property of Cupertino Coin Club and will not be returned. All other entries will be returned. The Cupertino Coin Club Board of Directors reserves the right to modify the winning design to meet the requirements of the minting process. Any modifications will be cleared with the designer.
• The winning designer shall receive one copper medal of their design as the winner’s prize.

Busy April meeting with potluck/hot dog/Polish sausage night, auction, show & tell, board inductions & drawing. Thank you to everyone who brought a dish to share. We had plenty of food. Everything was good. Thank you to Ken B for doing the honors of inducting the 2026-2027 board. Lots of youth participation with the Show & Tell. Several prize drawings with the youth all leaving with something to add to their collections. Now on to show prep. Hope to see everyone at the club show on April 26. We could still use hands to help. Come by Saturday night to set up tables and/or Sunday to volunteer in a capacity. See Don P at the show for your volunteer assignment. Thank you!

Happy 120th birthday, Denver Mint! 🎈

🏛️ Today, the Denver Mint celebrates its 120th birthday!

The Mint struck its first coins, Barber Half-Dollars, on February 1, 1906, the same day it welcomed the public for its first tours. As we look ahead to the Nation’s 250th birthday, and Colorado’s 150th birthday this year, we celebrate the Denver Mint’s long-standing role in American history. 🪙 Learn more about the Denver Mint on our website ➡️ https://bit.ly/4a1gVv8
