To close out the celebration of One Book, One Coast, we will be live streaming an author talk at all our library locations with George Takei, the author of this year’s highlighted book, “They Called Us Enemy.”
The book is a graphic memoir recounting George’s childhood imprisoned in American incarceration camps during World War II, and how those experiences planted the seeds for his remarkable future as an actor (Hikaru Sulu of Star Trek USS Enterprise), author, and equal rights advocate. Confronting questions of patriotism, family, loyalty, and community, George’s work is a stunning examination of what it means to be American, both long ago and today.
Please join us at Cupertino Library at 2pm on Sunday, May 31 in Room 101 to watch the interview.
This program is part of Santa Clara County’s celebration of Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and One Book, One Coast. One Book, One Coast is a collaborative program designed to bring together readers all along the West Coast through a single book. It is a shared celebration of community, literacy, learning, and civil discourse.
