Public Announcement
Cumby Volunteer Fire Department

The Cumby Volunteer Fire Department is urging all residents to stay alert as we move into a period of increased severe weather potential. North Texas can experience rapidly changing conditions, and your safety depends on staying informed and prepared.

Our outdoor warning siren is an important part of our community’s emergency notification system, but it is not designed to be your only source of information. The siren is intended to warn people who are outdoors of an immediate, life‑threatening hazard—most commonly a tornado warning issued for our area.

To help everyone understand how the system is used:

• The siren will sound only when there is a confirmed, immediate threat to the Cumby area.
• It is not activated for watches, routine thunderstorms, or alerts outside our coverage zone.
• When you hear the siren, seek shelter immediately and check trusted weather sources for details.
• Please do not call 911 to ask why the siren is sounding unless you have an emergency.

We strongly encourage all residents to use multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather radios, mobile alerts, and local news outlets. Outdoor sirens are just one layer of protection.

Your safety is our priority. Thank you for helping us keep our community informed and prepared.

🔔 A Safety Reminder from the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department

As we “spring forward” for Daylight Saving Time, the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department wants to remind everyone to take a simple step that can save lives.

🔋 Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries

When you set your clocks forward, it’s the perfect time to replace the batteries in all your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Working alarms give you and your family the critical early warning needed in an emergency.

🏠 Why It Matters

• Most fatal home fires happen at night when people are asleep
• A working smoke detector cuts the risk of dying in a house fire nearly in half
• Batteries weaken long before they die completely — replacing them regularly keeps your home protected

🚒 We’re Here for You

If you need help checking your smoke detectors or installing new ones, the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department is always glad to assist our community.

Stay safe, and thank you for helping keep our town and surrounding communities protected.
