➡️Small branches may be bundled, tied, and placed curbside — no more than 2” in diameter and 3’ long.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. Not every mile of our individual or collective races will be good and that is okay. We keep going. My hope is that as a community we engage in meaningful conversations around good mental health and that we engage with one another by coming from a place of compassion and empathy. Having the conversation is the only way we can decrease the stigma surrounding su***de and suicidal ideation.

But prevention starts with connection.

Asking for help is not a weakness. It is one of the bravest things any of us can do. And sometimes, being there for someone else starts with simply asking, “Are you okay?” and being willing to listen.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that you don’t have to face it alone:

➡️ Call or text 988 — Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7

➡️ 988lifeline.org — chat with a trained crisis counselor

➡️ 911 — if someone is in immediate danger

You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out. Your reason is reason enough. Let’s continue building a community where asking for help is met with compassion, not judgment.

On this day, we honor the lives of the 2,977 innocent men, women, and children who were killed 25 years ago by terrorists in attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

May we always remember the victims, the courage of the heroes who live among us, and the families who were forever changed that day.

Our nation was also changed that day. I hope we continue to honor the lives of the fallen by remembering the simple truth that we are better together. We are better when we stand for the morals greater than any singular one of us.

It’s always a great day when we get messages like this about the Pump Track at Diamond Hill Park. Part of building a connected, healthy community is having inclusive, fun, and accessible outdoor spaces for people to be active - especially our youngest residents! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who continues to make the Pump Track a valuable community space here in Cumberland and a thank you also to the older (or let’s say more experienced) riders who mentor and include the younger ones and help them grow!

One year of pre-hospital blood! 🩸

Cumberland EMS is an innovative leader in our State and our community is so lucky to have them. Their professionalism, expertise, and dedication make us all safer - as evidenced by the success of this program!

One year ago today, we placed the first units of whole blood on our ambulances, launching our prehospital blood program!

Since then, our team has administered 14 units of blood across 13 patients, bringing this critical treatment directly to patients before they reach the hospital.

Thank you to our partners at the RI Blood Center and RIH Blood Bank for helping make this program possible, and to the blood donors and dedicated providers who support this care.

We remain committed to continuing this lifesaving program and providing blood when and where our patients need it most.

Reminder: Tomorrow is Primary Day! 🗳️

If you haven't come in to Town Hall for early voting, tomorrow is your day. Here are a few helpful pieces of information.

➡️ If you'd like to look up your polling location and view a sample ballot, you can visit the Secretary of State's website here: https://vote.sos.ri.gov/Home/PollingPlaces?ActiveFlag=2

➡️ If you're voting in person on Election Day, a reminder that polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.

➡️ You will be asked to show a current and valid photo ID when you vote at your polling place. If you do not bring an acceptable photo ID to the polls, you may cast a provisional ballot.

➡️ If you filled out a mail ballot and would like to check the status/see if it has been accepted, you can do that here: https://ballottrax.sos.ri.gov/voter/

I also want to say thank you to the Town Staff, Board of Canvassers, and our poll workers who put in a tremendous amount of work and effort to make sure elections are run smoothly. It would not be possible without them.

Voting is a right, a honor, and a responsibility all rolled into one - I hope you take the chance to exercise it.

The Town of Cumberland is excited to once again partner with Mad Science of Southeastern MA and Rhode Island! These sessions are always a big hit and this time, we're bringing RADICAL ROBOTS to the Amaral Building—an interactive, hands-on workshop for children in grades K–6.

📅 Saturday, September 19th
⏰ 10:00 AM (approximately 1 hour)
💲 Free to attend
📍 Amaral Building - 16 Mill Street

Children become wrapped up in the world of robotics! Volunteers act out a robot, remote control device, and an automaton. A reading and writing robot draw shapes, detects objects, and tracks lines. Children circulate learning centers to control an automaton through sound, move a robot through a maze, and use wireless controls to move bug-like devices! A soft and snuggly robotic seal pup is passed around for all to pet.

Spaces are limited, sign up early!
