Margie put together a special Memorial Day tribute in the Learning Commons Library. The display honors relatives of faculty/staff who were killed during World War II. She is also working on a special D-Day/World War II display for all those who served during the war. The Memorial Day Display will stay up along with the D-Day display, which hopefully will be finished by D-Day on June 6th. Stop by the library and check out the display!

“Easy, miss. I got you.”- Superman
“You’ve got me? Who’s got you?”- Lois Lane

If you find yourself falling out of a helicopter, let’s hope there’s a superhero around to rescue you. Lois Lane, played by Margot Kidder, found that out in the 1978 classic “Superman”, also starring Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman and Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. This movie was really groundbreaking for its time as superhero movies were not commonplace at this point. Christopher Reeve’s first film as Superman would prove that comic book characters could be taken seriously and translated successfully to the silver screen.

The movie opens with the destruction of Krypton and a young boy being sent in a rocket to planet earth, where he would be found by Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Kents named him Clark and raised the boy, who would eventually grow up to become Superman, as their own. After moving to the city of Metropolis, Clark meets fellow reporter Lois Lane and the nefarious Lex Luthor, who would become one of Superman’s greatest enemies.

If you’re looking for more cinematic adventures of the Man of Steel, the library currently has “Superman Returns,” “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League” among others. Let’s get watching!

“I always thought it would be better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.” -Tom Ripley

If you’re looking for a good thriller to watch, one that does not contain the elements of a horror movie, look no further than “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999). Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, the movie stars Matt Damon with Jude Law and will keep viewers guessing until the end, even though it’s not a whodunit.

Matt Damon plays Tom Ripley, a man with a talent for deception and manipulation that he uses to con his way into the life of wealthy pl***oy Dickie Greenleaf, played by Jude Law. This movie, also starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett, has enough intrigue and suspense for several films!

Stop in to the library and check out the DVD and book of “The Talented Mr. Ripley” today. Let’s get watching!
