June 23, 2026:

Hwy. 63 Bridge Replacement:
This week they are starting the bridge decking. Please note, the I-beams and related infrastructure you will see them putting in place the next couple days are temporary structures to create a false decking that they use to support the real decking during construction. These temporary structures are reused and rusty, but are not part of the final structure. So no--we're not getting rusted beams in our new bridge! If weather cooperates, the pouring of the real bridge decking is scheduled for late next week, with hopes of having it done before the 4th of July. After the holiday break, additional work to raise the elevation of the highway to match the new bridge will take precedence, along with dredging of the lake channel in later July.

Local Street Improvement Projects:
Barron County Highway Department is already deep into our mill and overlay work on many of our local streets. They will attempt to get as many of the streets that have been milled covered in new blacktop as possible prior to the 4th of July. They will then demobilize for other obligations and return in late-July to early-August to wrap up mill and overlay work and to perform some pulverize and pave work. Crack filling could occur in the hiatus.

Brightspeed Fiber Installation:
Brightspeed's fiber installation work is planned to begin in the early days of July--starting in areas where their work will affect local streets being resurfaced this year so that they won't be cutting into new blacktop. Their schedule thereafter is being developed and we'll share it as we receive it!

In response to the water quality questions circulating over the last few days, we reached out to the President of the Beaver Dam Lake Management District, who confirmed that what people are seeing is large pollen accumulations. Algae blooms would be accompanied by poor water transparency, and the water is still quite transparent below the surface (as evaluated with a secchi disks). The pollen will soon pass. These is no need for concern!

With the quick ex*****on of our 2026 Street Maintenance Program on our local streets, we forgot to mention that we need everyone to refrain from parking on the streets in the active work areas! This week and next they will be undertaking the prescribed mill and overlay work (see the list in the image). Please avoid parking on these streets this week and next. We regret the short notice!

The amount of non-compliant use of the brush dump, including use by non-residents and the dumping of excessively large materials like this, is reaching disproportionately high levels once again. If people can't self-regulate, we may have to change accessibility. Please don't ruin a good thing!

June 16, 2026:

Hwy. 63 Bridge Replacement:
No change to the schedule from last week. This week riprap and the roadway approaches on each end of the bridge will be built up. The week of June 22nd work on the bridge decking will commence, with concrete installation on the bridge deck currently planned for the week of June 29th. Soon thereafter, build up of the Hwy. 63 roadway to match the height of the new bridge will begin, along with dredging and Lake Street work following a bit later in July.

Local Street Improvement Projects: Late last week we posted information regarding the local street improvements that are imminent. For those local streets undergoing a mill and overlay treatment this year, milling work will start tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, and last into next week. We expect a schedule and map from Barron County later today or tomorrow and will share it as soon as possible. Late next week the new blacktop installation will begin, with a good portion of it being completed before the 4th of July. In the weeks immediately following the 4th of July, crack filling operations will move in. Then, in late July or early August, pulverize and pave operations will move in along with any outstanding blacktop work being completed. This work should all wrap in August according to current plans. For information on the local streets getting work this year, and the specific planned treatments, please follow the link below. Please keep in mind that the treatments being applied to our local streets this year only result in short disruptions in any one location and do not come with long street closures and property access issues!

As the result of a Special City Council meeting this morning, we will once again be working with the Barron County Highway Department for our 2026 Street Maintenance Program. This image lists the segments being treated this year, along with current planned treatments. The mill and overlay work could start as early as next week. We'll get this information on our website later today, and provide a more precise schedule as additional information emerges!
