NOW HIRING: MUNICIPAL COURT CLERK

The City of Cumberland is accepting applications for a part-time Municipal Court Clerk, averaging approximately 10–15 hours per week.

The Municipal Court Clerk works directly with the Municipal Judge and is responsible for maintaining court records, preparing and processing court documents, scheduling hearings, assisting the public with court-related matters, attending court proceedings, and collecting and processing fines and payments.

Qualifications include:

High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred
Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently
Must possess or be able to promptly obtain Wisconsin Municipal Court Clerk Certification

Another reminder--new assessment notices will be hitting mailboxes soon. This video explains how the assessment process works and how it affects property taxes. In short, this process does nothing to produce more revenue for the City. Our levy is capped, so this process simply recalibrates every property owner's proportional share. The state requires municipalities to keep their assessment ratios within 10% of a state imposed level so at some point this is not optional for us. Values will go up drastically on average, but that does not equate to a drastic increase in your next property tax bill!

September 15, 2026:

Hwy. 63 Bridge Replacement:
Today we have reached agreement with the DOT and DNR on how to address the issues associated with the damaged sewer force main that has temporarily halted the Lake St. removal and dredging. The plan is being executed now. During the hiatus of this work, crews are busy up top doing final grading in preparation for the installation of blacktop on Thursday and Friday of this week. Next week installation of guardrails, fencing and final associated restoration work will get under way. At this point, we're hopeful that the force main damage will result in only a one-week additional delay in full completion. If it looks like it will go beyond that, we will discuss opening the bridge before all the dredging and Lake St. work is complete. Stay tuned!

September 8, 2026:

Hwy. 63 Bridge Replacement:
As you've probably heard, a sewer line was hit late last week during the Lake St. removal process. The impact of this situation, along with the exact cause, is being determined as quickly as possible. The next 48-72 hours will reveal a lot. In the meantime, other work is being realigned so that the project keeps moving forward. The concrete company should be returning tomorrow to pour the final sidewalks. Final reconstruction of the Nedvidek intersection should occur this week, with final grading work in preparation for blacktop late this week. Blacktopping should commence the week of September 14. The polymer overlay on the multi-use recreational lane will occur after the pedestrian traffic is moved to the new sidewalk. More information will be released as soon as it's available!

Local Street Improvement Projects:
The Barron County Highway Department will return in later September for some shouldering work where roads were pulverized and repaved, along with resurfacing of the cemetery driving lanes.

Hwy. 63 Resurfacing south of Cumberland towards Turtle Lake:
Work on one large culvert still needs to be completed, which should be done by the middle part of this week. Final approvals of the overlay mix are imminent and paving operations should be in full swing by the end of this week.

Brightspeed Fiber Installation: No new update from Brightspeed was available at the time of this notice.

September 1, 2026:

Hwy. 63 Bridge Replacement:
Prep work for final sidewalk installation in underway. The concrete team should return sometime between this Friday (9/4) and next Tuesday (9/8) to pour the sidewalks. Once done and cured pedestrian traffic will be moved out of the multi-use recreation lane and to its permanent home on the new sidewalk. Lake St. removals and dredging could commence as soon as Wednesday (9/2) and will likely run as late as next Friday (9/11). Blacktopping is planned for the week of September 14th. That leaves a few loosed ends, like the polymer overlay on the multi-use recreational lane and the staining of the faux-rock facades for the week of September 21st. Completion is still planned for Friday September 25th.
