The new school year is upon us, and I want to say a few words to all the teachers, parents, and students. Bullying is something that happens all the time. It's in our schools, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and it can be anywhere. I experienced it when I was growing up: I was bullied, and I was a bully. We must join together to fight and defeat this. When we see it happening, we should say something or do something to try to stop it. At the least we should report it. Bullying has a traumatic effect on people of all ages. We should treat people how we want to be treated. Let's start this school year off with a bang and join together to bring an end to Bullying!

Bully For You

All I want is these put downs to end
Can't you look at me as just a friend
I can take it every now and then
But you do it again and again

You don't know what it's like to be me
Wish we'd trade places so you could see
It's not easy doing this every day
Being teased and harassed every way

I don't look forward to seeing you
Because of all the things that you do
I don't look like you I realize that
And I know that I'm a little fat

When it comes to height I come up short
At home I'm known as "the little sq**rt"
But they say it with love in their heart
For you it's just a place you can start

Some like me can't take it and they quit
They end their lives because they don't fit
I just keep praying maybe one day
You'll see me in a different way

Hate

Today is another day I'll mourn
I'm unhappy and my heart is torn
It's all because of the hate I see
That's being promoted around me

It's as plain as the nose on my face
Hate of beliefs, religion and race
It doesn't matter who's doing it
It's wrong and I pray one day they'll quit

One's thoughts, faith, or color of their skin
Make some hate because its been built-in
Some hate due to political view
Others hate because they have no clue

Hate in our country is all around
In every corner it can be found
I thought we had outgrown all of this
But it seems as though things are amiss

Many times it brings tears to my eyes
When I see all of the hate and lies
I wish this was a dream and not true
And many had a different view

There're many reasons why people hate
But it must stop before it's too late
Today what I want to start with you
Is something that I know you can do

Hug someone that you've never before
Love someone that you tend to ignore
Look at people as the same as you
And as they see this others will too

It's not too late to turn this around
As long as people like us are found
Ones who are willing to do their part
To make a change in a hateful heart

Today is World Poetry Day. With all that I see our country is going through I thought this would be a good poem to post:

Hate

Today is another day I'll mourn

Rediscovered

Today's a day you should come on down
And enjoy the great mall in our town
After many years, things are complete
And our downtown mall now has a street

There are new lights, trees, parking, and more
Some of the buildings have a new store
The facades on some have been redone
And add to the beauty of each one

It took years to get to where we are
It's hard to believe we've come so far
Due to the efforts of all involved
Our downtown mall has a problem solved

People are coming from all around
And say it's one of the best malls found
The layout is way beyond compare
And its new street takes you up through there

After you've read and heard all that's new
There's one more thing that you need to do
Come and enjoy all that's s been covered
Downtown Cumberland Rediscovered

Ravens' Country

From the western mountains to the eastern shore
You will find the loyal fans of Baltimore
They are young and old, and they are in between
And they are some of the best fans ever seen

The team colors are purple, gold, black, and white
And out of the tunnel a beautiful sight
Their team mascots are Edgar, Allan, and Poe
During game day, they are always on the go

The band and the cheerleaders are number one
They provide music, cheering, and lots of fun
The food, drinks, and snacks are way beyond compare
The gift shops are the best you'll find anywhere

The stadium is beautiful and the best
It's the perfect place for a football contest
The fans get there early so they can tailgate
They eat, drink, converse, play games, and celebrate

Ravens' fans are great and come from everywhere
And whenever there's a game, they will be there
Throughout the whole season, you will hear and see
This voice and face of the Ravens family

It's hard to believe that nine years ago today, I retired from CSX! Time flies when you stay busy. Thank you citizens of Cumberland for giving me the chance to serve you after my retirement.

Us - Them

There was a time we could disagree
And nothing changed between you and me
We all had opinions that we'd share
And each would treat the other one fair

We'd sit and discuss problems we had
Find solutions whether good or bad
When all was done you still had a
friend
But, sadly this has come to an end

We're now taught that if we disagree
There's no compromise for you and me
I'm your enemy and you are mine
Because our politics don't align

Politics say who our friends will be
As well as who is our enemy
The hate it installs in some of us
Receives little resistance or fuss

The anger and lies spewed by each side
Are some of why listening has died
It's nearly impossible to find
Anyone who has an open mind

Let us pray a solution is found
And our country's back on solid ground
For if we continue as we've done
Then divide and conquer will have won
