Sarah Boone was born in 1832 in Craven County, North Carolina. Sarah Boone made her name by inventing perfection to the ironing board. There were few women like Ms. Boone during her time, a female African American inventor. In her patent application, she wrote that the purpose of her invention was "a cheap, simple, convenient and highly effective device,particularly adapted to be used in ironing the sleeves and bodies of ladies garments ." Prior to that time, most people ironed using a board of wood rested across a pair of chairs or tables. She was living in New Haven, Connecticut, when her patent was granted in 1892. She died in 1904.

George Crum. Everytime a person crunches into a potato chip, he or she is enjoying the delicious taste of one of the world's most famous snacks-atreat that might not exist without the contribution of black inventor George Crum. The son of an African American father and a Native American mother Crum was working as the chef in the summer of 1853 when he incidentally invented the chip it all began when a patron who ordered a plate of French fries potatoes sent them back to Crum's kitchen because he felt they were too thick and soft.
