Plan your bulk-item pick-ups around the 4th of July holiday!♻️

The last week to schedule a bulk item pick-up before Independence Day holiday is June 23, 2026 for collections on June 25, 26, and 27!

There will be no bulk pick-up collections scheduled for Independence Day holiday weekend, on the following dates: July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Bulk pick-ups will resume on a pre-scheduled basis on July 9th, 10th, and 11th.

To schedule a collection, please call the Public Works Office at 301-759-6620 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday. All collections must be scheduled by 3:00 PM each Tuesday for collection.

Bulk pick-ups are conducted weekly (except for holidays), and will be scheduled on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, coinciding with the 2nd trash pickup of the week for each area, as follows:

THURSDAY: East Side & West Side
FRIDAY: South Cumberland & Downtown
SATURDAY: North Cumberland

On Monday, June 15, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, water service will be interrupted on Cole Street from Princeton Street to Shades Lane while the City of Cumberland Water Department ties in the new water main.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, water service will be interrupted on Frost Avenue from Yale Street to Shades Lane for the tie-in.

The City of Cumberland is looking for an Entry Level Public Works Technician I!

This role performs skilled work involving repair and maintenance of streets, parks, athletic fields and playgrounds. Performs all activities in pavement maintenance and repair, concrete repair, traffic marking and signing, and other general street maintenance functions. Performs all activities in winter street maintenance including snow plowing, salting and any other tasks assigned. Operates a variety of power and hand tools and is knowledgeable in their maintenance and repair. Certified in flagging and traffic control.

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Carl Belt Inc., would like to notify the public of construction work that will impact the Harrison Street and Mechanic Street intersection.

This will begin on Monday, 6/15/26, and be in effect on weekdays until Friday, 6/26/26.

Traffic control devices will guide motorists and pedestrians through the area.

The City of Cumberland will be accepting applications for a full-time position of Accounting Associate II in the Tax Utility Billing Office of the Department of Finance.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or its equivalent (GED) and two or more years of previous general office/clerical experience.

Class Summary: Under supervision, performs general accounting activities to assist the department in administering programs and services offered to the community. Perform the day-to-day operation of the tax utility billing office in a timely and accurate manner.

Salary: $16.50 to $20.70/hour. Actual salary is commensurate with education and experience.
